Lovely Ms Marple Short Stories
Revisado: 07-26-24
Thoroughly enjoyed the narration of this complete collection of Miss Marple short stories. I worried the stories would be too short to engage me, but found most just as delightful as her novels.

Delightful, Classic Agatha Christie
Revisado: 10-25-23
A big Agatha Christie fan, I had not read (or listened to) Why Didn't They Ask Evans? I thoroughly enjoyed this fun whodunit from the queen of mysteries. The narration was superb, the pacing of the novel excellent, and the characters memorable. Great fun!

Historia
A reluctant ex-spy with demons of her own, Elinor finds herself facing down one of the most dangerous organized crime gangs in London, ultimately exposing corruption from Scotland Yard to the highest levels of government. The private, quiet “Miss White" as Elinor is known, lives in a village in rural Kent, England, and to her fellow villagers seems something of an enigma. Well she might, as Elinor occupies a "grace and favor" property, a rare privilege offered to faithful servants of the Crown for services to the nation.

I Loved this Book!
Revisado: 07-10-23
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Jacqueline Winspear's fiction and this book does not disappoint! She has an amazing ability to plunk us right into the complex, uncertain and riveting times of Europe during the World Wars. Her characters are memorable and engaging, and we soon care about them because they feel so real. It helps too that the narration by Orlagh Cassidy is flawless. I highly recommend this book (as well as the stunning Maisie Dobbs series).

Historia
Armed only with a frying pan and her common sense, Tiffany Aching, a young witch-to-be, is all that stands between the monsters of Fairyland and the warm, green Chalk country that is her home. Forced into Fairyland to seek her kidnapped brother, Tiffany allies herself with the Chalk's local Nac Mac Feegle, aka the Wee Free Men, a clan of sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, six-inch-high blue men who are as fierce as they are funny.

A Masterpiece from Pratchett
Revisado: 09-16-22
I started at the beginning of the Disc World books by Terry Pratchett. He got his feet under himself after the first two books and his characters from book 3 on have been memorable, likeable and wonderfully human (even Death). I skipped ahead at the suggestion of a friend, and I am so glad I did. The Wee Free Men is a masterpiece. Tiffany Aching is the character I needed as a kid and get to delight in now. The Nac Mac Feegles are unforgettable. This is a must read (or listen) for anyone who loves adventure, fantasy, earnest hilarity, and surprising depth.

Powerfully Moving, Deeply Hopeful
Revisado: 05-09-22
Jen Crow's book, Take What You Need, is wise, engaging, and full of surprises.
A bolt of lightening in the middle of the night leaves her and her family rushing into the dark rain with barely time to grab shoes and each other.
As she begins to try to put her and her family's world back together, their harrowing escape from the destructive fire swirls together with experiences and lessons from her earlier life.
Richly told stories of struggle and hard won victories inspire and move. Jen Crow shows us how faith and hope, even when borrowed or gifted from others, can help us navigate through the most difficult struggles to a place of acceptance and love.

Maisie Dobbs does not disappoint!
Revisado: 10-13-18
True to form, Maisie Dobbs takes on another case steeped in the history of the era and the complexities of human behavior and motivation. Our favorite characters return and new ones are introduced. With each, Jacqueline Winspear shows unflinching honesty and deep compassion. This installation in the series does not disappoint!
