Engaging Medieval Siena Historical Tale
Revisado: 03-09-22
Great storytelling with accurate and enjoyable setting in both medieval and modern Siena. The characters are engaging and well thought out. The plot kept me wanting to know what would happen next. The romance was touching and believable. An interesting twist on the impact of the Black Death on Siena. Overall the best audiobook I have listened to throughout the past year.

Historical Fiction that Truly Transports You
Revisado: 06-06-21
This is one of the most engaging audiobooks to which I have had the pleasure to listen. The writing really transports you to Venice in the early 1600's, with engaging characters and a taut storyline as well as romance and interaction with historic characters. The narration is well acted, with interesting and compelling characterizations for the different people in the story, both male and female. I really got a feel for the people and practices, both good and bad, during the period in the era of Venice under Doge Leonardo Donato. Finding out how the Murano Glass was made and its importance to Venice was fascinating, as was hearing how artisans and merchants lived as opposed to the nobility. All in all this was a great audiobook which had me wanting to finish in one sitting and sad when it was done because I missed not having more story to hear. It was a real storyteller's story in the writing and acting, one which is not to be missed.

This is a small town Southern love story with lots of twists, including the ghosts. The tale is very well written with characters that totally engaged me. The plot was well thought out with plenty of surprises. The setting has just the right mood. The story was very well acted with interesting and consistent differentiation of character voices. Overall this is one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Unexpected Revolutionary Perspective
Revisado: 02-28-20
This was another great audio book on the American Revolution by Lars Hedbor, one of my top choices from the several to which I have listened. The Native American perspective was outstanding, with interesting and challenging ties to the American militia. The cultural setting and details, even language differentiation, really caught me up in the story. It is so easy to get caught up in these stories, but the unique outlook had me want to know more about the characters from very early in the story. Shamaan Casey was exceptional in his narration, with challenging multicultural dialog performed in an engaging, easy manner. This is a must listen.

Exciting and Original Revolutionary Tale
Revisado: 02-28-20
I have listened to several of Lars Hedbor's books on the Revolutionary War, all of which are quite good, but this is by far my favorite. The back and forth between present time and the Colonial/Revolution timeframe kept me on the edge of my seat. There are also interesting elements of mystery to keep things interesting. Perhaps most of all, once again the author highlighted a perspective from the American Revolution with which I was not at all familiar, in this case an earlier declaration. Shamaan Casey is excellent as usual, very easy to engage with when acting the different characters. Outstanding overall - I'm looking forward to my next read.

Great Characters, Engaging Story
Revisado: 12-18-19
From the very beginning of the story I was caught up in the people, both main characters and supporting cast. They are believable and interesting, with day to day life and big events written so that I wanted to know more as the plot unfolded. I particularly liked Cruse and Davie's mom, as well as the way Nora and Davie grew and opened up as they got to know each other. Overall a very good tale about how a family can come together, both relatives and people who are way more than just friends.
The performance by Terri England was very enjoyable, with well thought out and interesting voices for each of the characters.
My favorite part of the book was warmth and sense of family that built and grew as the story progressed. I did struggle a little bit with Nora's inflexibility with her belief in a vegan lifestyle, but I really looked forward to finding out what came next throughout the story.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Outstanding Audio Theatre
Revisado: 12-02-19
I wouldn't call this an audio book. This was truly audio theatre, in the best tradition of radio theatre from years gone by. The acting was very good, the recording quality was excellent, and the sound effects were well done. I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy this story as an audio book, but it quickly grabbed me and never let go. I really hope Audible does more of these performance oriented audio books - this was a joy to listen to.

Love and Loss
Revisado: 08-27-19
This was an interesting and well told story of love and loss as well as getting past losing someone close. Couched in shifting between time, the lighthouse history is accurate and interesting. The playing out of the role of women in the 1920’s in South Carolina is difficult at times, especially in the context of physical and emotional abuse, but gives depth to the story. First and foremost, this is a love story and a story of family, not necessarily traditional family. The characters are well developed, engaging, and believable. This is a well told, enjoyable tale, with just a hint of spice.
