An advocate may know what to say but is only effective when he or she knows how to be persuasive. Combining facts with know-how to persuade judges, juries, and arbitrators, the book teaches immediately useful techniques such as how to channel the initial adrenaline buzz, grab and hold the fact finder’s attention, gesture while speaking, speak in phrases, and polish the persuasive style. Based on 30 years of experience from coaching practitioners, this guide integrates cutting-edge discoveries in human factors, gesture studies, linguistics, neuroscience, and more.

repetition makes for a boring book

Tap this should’ve been a 90-minute book
Even at time and a half speed, it was hard to stay interested because it was so repetitive

Historia
In recent years, Christians everywhere are rediscovering the Jewish roots of their faith. Every year at Easter time, many believers now celebrate Passover meals (known as Seders) seeking to understand exactly what happened at Jesus' final Passover, the night before he was crucified. Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes.

I believe this is one of the best books I’ve ever read
Revisado: 10-15-22
All should read this book. Yep it is well referenced, easy to follow, and ties together early church writings, the New Testament, and especially the Old Testament. I’m sure I’ll be reading it at least a few more times to get the finer points.

Historia
Mary Magdalene is one of the most influential symbols in the history of Christianity - yet, if you look in the Bible, you'll find only a handful of verses that speak of her. How did she become such a compelling saint in the face of such paltry evidence? In her effort to answer that question, Cynthia Bourgeault examines the Bible, church tradition, art, legend, and newly discovered texts to see what's there.

Mystical nonsense which breaks the very rules the author states in the first couple chapters are you important
Revisado: 12-27-21
There are some excellent general points of scripture and tradition noted, however, the author takes insane license in pushing her clear agenda by assuming causation, assuming facts not known, and shrouding the most likely cause of why some for thousands of years have disagreed with her views in some paternalistic nonsense. She does state in Chapter 2 that she could be wrong (paraphrased), but she doesn’t mention that the majority of her arguments are made up, self serving, and massively biased. The entire thesis is apparently designed to support her need to feel equal and points to a serious inferiority complex and total misunderstanding of Apostolic Succession and its Biblical and traditional roots. Clearly she does not appreciate the position the individuals she slanders hold for women, the Church, Mary, the Mother of Christ, or St. Mary Magdalene. I knew this would be interesting from near the beginning where the author holds St. Mary Magdalene to a higher position than The second Eve and Arc, St. Mary the mother of Christ. Maybe she missed the, “Blessed are you among women” scripture. If you are a nail, the World is a hammer but using supposition and assumption to fit a clearly predefined narrative conclusion is concerning when coming from an educator and minister. Whether or not Mary M and Mary B are one and the same or not, the causation argument for disagreement is a secularly popular and convenient, but nonetheless baseless and clearly spurious presumption. Mary M serves as the quintessential example of forgiveness by simply giving one’s heart to Jesus regardless of what her sins may have been. As the first priest in the clearly defined apostolic succession he forgives her of her sins and sets her free. Does it really matter if one of her sins was sexual in nature or not? I was so looking forward to this book but left so disappointed because it was not reliable or factual. It was a biased account of wishful thinking to fit the author’s mystical preconceived beliefs and convenient causation arguments. Don’t waste you money unless you are just looking for some more male bashing diatribe on a Biblical scale.

Historia
In Hitler, God, and the Bible, international evangelist and bestselling author Ray Comfort exposes Adolf Hitler's theology and abuse of religion as a means to seize political power and ultimately instigate World War II and genocide.
This fascinating study mines the depths of Hitler's beliefs and convincingly argues that without Hitler's misuse of Christianity the Third Reich would not have had its legendary rise, resulting in the deaths of more than six million Jews.

Excellent book
Revisado: 08-25-21
I found this very enlightening and well done. However, some of the opinions on theology as regards the Catholic Church and the historical accuracy of comments related to the relationship between Hitler and the papacy reflect the author’s bias and a lack of understanding of the Christianity’s history and roots. A minor criticism that certainly did not distract from the overall powerful information and message.

Historia
Drawing on first-person interviews, unpublished memoirs, newspaper accounts, contemporary studies, government documents, and recent scholarship, Sin, Sex & Subversion argues that "deviant" sexuality was subversive, and that unique New York "outsiders" of the 1950s set the stage for the following decades and the world we know today. In each chapter, author David Rosen examines a critical moral issue through an in-depth profile of figures such as Liberace, Samuel Roth, Bettie Page, the Rosenbergs, and others.

Possibly the most biased spin on history ever written
Revisado: 03-10-21
Some interesting points and historical references buried in far left sometimes comical selections of included “facts” and innuendo while passing over completely or downplaying far more convincing facts refuting the author’s politically biased point of view. An excellent study of leftist propaganda.

Historia
Benjamin Franklin is the founding father who winks at us - an ambitious urban entrepreneur who rose up the social ladder, from leather-aproned shopkeeper to dining with kings. In best-selling author Walter Isaacson's vivid and witty full-scale biography, we discover why Franklin turns to us from history's stage with eyes that twinkle from behind his new-fangled spectacles. In Benjamin Franklin, Isaacson shows how Franklin defines both his own time and ours. The most interesting thing that Franklin invented, and continually reinvented, was himself.

Almost too much detail
Revisado: 08-19-20
This was more than expected in the area of detail and somewhat bland in its presentation. However, if you persevere through its course you will certainly leave knowing a great deal of Franklin and the times in which he lived. Glad I made it through despite thinking of changing books more than once.
