OMG such a wonderful listen
Revisado: 11-24-24
I thought this book wonderful on so many levels. Judi and Brendan's chemistry is wonderful. The insights into Shakespeare's plays are eye opening and entertaining. The humor is fabulous. I just LOVED it all. Definitely listen to the very end because there is more of Judi and Brendan at the end of the acknowledgements. I'd love to meet them both, but especially Dame Judi.

Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Meh!
Revisado: 02-15-24
I can't decide if the story was just so-so/atypical Baldacci, or if the narration just killed it but the main narrator, Zachary Webber, was monotonous, and the female voices all sounded like very young women, regardless of what the age of the character might have been. Overall very disappointing.

The abbey’s novice master confirms the boy’s identity: John, one of three novices. But he had gone missing four days previously, and his corpse is fresh. There has been plague in the area, but this was not the cause of death: The lad has been stabbed in the back. To Hugh’s sinking heart, the abbot has a commission for him....

Terrible Narrator
Revisado: 01-29-24
I should have listened to the other folks that rated the narrator poorly. I'm sure he's fine narrating other books, but the 'upper 10,000' accent is completely wrong for these books. There is also little variation in how the characters are voiced. I gave up trying to listen and have switched to the actual books where I can have Stephen Crossley's voice in mind. Sadly this is the end of this series for me on audiobook.

DREADFUL, ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL
Revisado: 06-01-23
I've enjoyed all the other John Corey books, and Scott Brick's narration of them, This book is a total exception. It could have been a good book as the general plot line is plausible, however, the dialogue and thoughts running through John Corey's now impossibly inflated ego and his stuck in his teen years hormones had to have been written by someone other than Nelson DeMille, or Mr. DeMille has lost his mind. And this nonesense goes on an on and on for 3/4 of the book. Honestly, how many euphemisms are there for a man's penis????? I would not recommend this book, print or audio, to anyone.
I cannot imagine this was fun for Scott Brick to read. I'd have been embarassed.

It is LONG, but the performance makes it worth it
Revisado: 10-23-22
The narrator really makes these books which are too long and detailed to read the book and enjoy. All the social media dialogue recitation was a bit much at times however it certainly demonstrated the wild fire nature of rumor and innuendo it facilitates.

A really good, if a bit long, listen
Revisado: 10-14-21
Overall I really enjoyed this book. It did bog down a bit however in the middle where it bounced from ship to sub to plane for a very long stretch not seeming to add much to the story. It could have been shortened and still conveyed the tension of the event.

The story started off well but I thought it became obvious what was going on and the resolution seemed too quick compared to the pace of the rest of the story.

Revisado: 05-31-20
I was sad to see this series come to an end (my assumption based on how the various storylines were wrapped up.). My main purpose for the review though is to say that Jonathon Marosz is the ONLY narrator for this series, IMO. He voices the characters perfectly, conveying the characters' personalities perfectly.

It may have been a first/early novel but.....
Revisado: 05-31-20
I enjoyed the opening preamble by the author, forewarning the listener that this was a first (?) novel so it might not be that great. He was wrong, I really enjoyed it! Was the plot a teeny bit implausible, sure (I won't give it away but the reader/listener will figure it out quickly), but the story keeps you guessing the whole way through as to 'who dun it' and why. No question Coben hit the ground running right from the start of his writing career.
It may have gotten a bit overcomplicated, which is why I didn't give it 5's across the board but I think it's a great listen regardless.

I could not get into this narration
Revisado: 01-20-20
I was looking forward to hearing Michelle Obama tell her own story (I think she even got nominated for an award for her narration), but I could not keep with it. I assumed it would be read in a conversational tone, as if she was telling us her story over cup of coffee or glass of wine. Unfortunately, to my ears anyway, it is read with a bed time story tone which just got on my nerves as the book progressed. Better suited for Good Night Moon than for her life story.
This one I'll have to read the book rather than listen to it.
