The female character is horrible. She was so annoying I couldn't force myself to get past episode 3.

Historia
In the Dark, hosted by Madeleine Baran, is an award-winning investigative-journalism podcast that started in 2016. Its first season looked at the mysterious abduction of Jacob Wetterling in rural Minnesota and the lack of accountability that sheriffs face when they fail to solve cases. Season 2 examined the case of Curtis Flowers, who was tried six times for the same crime. In 2020, In the Dark released a special report on the coronavirus pandemic in the Mississippi Delta. In 2023, In the Dark joined The New Yorker and Condé Nast. “The Runaway Princesses,” a four-part series that asks why...

Historia
A fresh start. That's what Becca hoped the move from New York to Redemption, Wisconsin would be for her troubled family. A way to get her crumbling marriage back on track, and to bond with her difficult 16-year-old stepdaughter. But instead of a new beginning, Becca is thrust into a mysterious past she barely remembers. A past that includes the complications of interacting with her old teenage crush, Daniel, as well as living in her aunt's old house. A house with a violent past. A house the locals swear is haunted.

slightly annoying

Fairly good story and better performance...but why does it seem every other word is "gluten free!"!!. Why is this relevant or necessary?

Historia
Born under different stars—Mungo a Protestant and James a Catholic—they should be sworn enemies if they’re to be seen as men at all. Their environment is a hyper-masculine and sectarian one, for gangs of young men and the violence they might dole out dominate the Glaswegian estate where they live. And yet against all odds Mungo and James become best friends as they find a sanctuary in the pigeon dovecote that James has built for his prize racing birds.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 07-03-23
I wanted to rate this higher but just could not bring myself to do it. My issue is not with the author's ability to write or construct a story it is more with the content. If you are not gay then you may be fine with the storyline and not as bothered as I was. As a gay man I have a problem with this worn out storyline of abuse, pain and tragedy endured by gay people or just those that are different. I understand that this may go along with the landscape of the intended timeline (1990's) in Scotland and don't doubt that in some ways it is an accurate depiction but I just wish authors would move past this or at least include some moments of redemption...this story has almost none!! Just know that if you do choose this, that for some, this is not going to be a satisfying listen and almost from beginning to end very sad and frustrating. Almost all of the characters are horrible and selfish but you hold out thinking there will be some pay off towards the end and unfortunately there really isn't at all, I just felt sort of gutted. I know not all stories have a nice tidy or happy ending but was holding out for something that provided some hope for the main character (although I suppose the author was thinking they provided that). I did finish it but was left empty and almost wishing I hadn't started it at all. I was thinking I might try the selection Shuggie Bain by this author but now am leaning towards skipping it. I I fear that I will be much of the same, depressing journey that I don't necessarily think needs to be told again.

Historia
Suspect is an investigative series about mislaid justice and the kinds of weighty decisions that detectives, lawyers, and jurors make every day - decisions that, once made, are almost impossible to reverse.Season 3: Five Shots in the Dark follows Leon Benson, who spent 24 years in an Indiana state prison for the 1998 murder of a young man named Kasey Schoen. His conviction hinged on the testimony of two eyewitnesses – but what if their memories turned out to be wrong? And what if the people who knew what really happened had never been allowed to speak? Suspect Season 3: Five Shots in the ...

One-sided but decent.
Revisado: 05-28-23
It's an interesting but sad unfortunate real event without a resolution. Just know going in that it is a biased opinion piece. I don't know (possibly no one ever will) if the suspect focused on actually committed this terrible crime but what evidence there is makes him a standout. The other (will just call him white guy since that was crafted throughout) top suspect definitely appeared shady and aloof and set off alarms as well when listening to the material presented. The reporter tries to gloss over and minimize past behavior of the subject of the podcast (and I'm not talking about the true victim). He attempts to paint a picture of a bible reading all around good guy that was getting a raw deal from the system and white people. Sometimes when you choose to do bad and illegal things in your past it does affect other people's opinion of you in the future so I don't necessarily think it's unfounded for police and the legal system to look at you differently (no matter the color of your skin). Not a bad production but just know going in that you will be getting a one-sided opinion and approach throughout the podcast and with most people that were selected for interviews. it is pointed out how police decide who's guilty and then try to find or exclude evidence to prove that but interestingly enough the reporter in this podcast employed the same strategy.

When one of the students in the study is found murdered in the psychology building, a dangerous game of cat and mouse begins, and Chloe goes from hunter to prey.

Annoying lead character!
Revisado: 12-29-21
Extremely unlikable lead character. I get she was supposed to be a psychopath + victim (interesting combo) but I found her annoying and almost stopped listening a couple times. I think I only kept listening because I somehow found myself hoping the character would be knocked off but was disappointed.
