Do you wish you had a magic pill that could help you master the art of small talk? Because I understand the importance of meeting new people and keeping friendships, I have written Small Talk Made Simple. Made VERY Simple
Revisado: 05-18-20
The subtitle mentions “How to start conversations” before any of the other things. I was hoping for something that covered “Speaking to people you don’t know yet and/or would like to get to know better”
Where my title says ...”VERY simple,” I mean that much of the details and techniques were very obvious.
For what it’s worth, I had already listed to his book The Social Introvert so there might have been some overlap that felt made some parts feel tedious.

Smart doesn’t mean smart.
Revisado: 03-21-20
In Yang’s other book The War on Normal People, he describes what he means by “normal people” because it wasn’t quite what it sounds like. The same thing happens here. I wished “smart people” had been defined because it ultimately ended up being intelligent people that also came from money and opportunity. I kept waiting for him to talk about intelligent “normal people” but we never got there...

Straight forward, no nonsense, perfect!
Revisado: 10-04-18
This was exactly what I had hoped for. It even touched on some specifics I was curious about like unschooling, memory palaces, and how to’s for students, teachers, and life long learners. It makes everything very clear and even uses its own teachnoques in the structure and writing of the book to help you MAKE (the material) STICK. It was everything I was hoping it would be and more.

Not a lot of "fluff"
Revisado: 09-17-16
I was happy to discover that the book stuck mainly to explaining the vocabulary, technique, and implementation of the "framing" system. Stories were used to give context or reinforce what was just explained. It even gives a quick review at the end of each chapter.
I have gotten some of these books and they had too much backstory or too many unhelpful anecdotes just to beef up the length of the boom it seemed. This book sticks to the topic while still keeping you engaged.
Won't waste your time.
I loved it.

Great applicable info put in understandable ways. Having the "Sarah" character walk through the steps and thought processes lets you know that you're wondering the right questions along the way.
Voice was kinda gravel-y and almost a growl at times. Didn't bother me but that kind of thing can be distracting I suppose.

More like anecdotal textbook, not a self help book
Revisado: 02-27-15
What did you like best about The Power of Habit? What did you like least?
I did enjoy the performance of the narrator. He was well paced and sounded like he was invested in the subject matter. The idea behind the book is a very interesting topic and one with many practical applications.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would have made changes to the length and number of stories. They were very long considering what the point actually was (demonstrating how habits work within the described situations). The stories were also separated out between other stories. In the middle of one story another one would begin, then before that one was done a third story, then back to the first, back to the third, finish the second etc. Maybe it was going for a "cliff hanger" type feel. Maybe it came across better in the book. It didn't work here, though.
Which scene was your favorite?
I enjoyed the first scene where the woman made positive changes in her life with specific habit-minded techniques.
Was The Power of Habit worth the listening time?
It believe it was too long if you can grasp a concept without anecdotes or if you easily forget the point of a story before it's over.
Any additional comments?
This was not so much a "self help" book as it was an explanation of different types and scales of habits. At several points I found myself thinking "He has this cool story he wants to tell and is trying to work habits in to it just so he can include it," or "He is making this story so much longer than it needs to be just so he can make the book seem long enough."
