Historia
Liv’s happy with life in her thirties. She has two cats, one BFF, and no boyfriend, which is just how she likes it. Plus, she loves working at a not-for-profit software company where she can be her authentically autistic self. This is her happy ever after. But when her beloved firm merges with a repulsive rival, Liv finds herself competing with her sort-of-ex for the top job. Sure, Finn had been Liv’s best friend, with his nerdy good looks and their shared love of Tolkien, but there was that one night, their song, and … well, she doesn’t like to talk about it.

Hard to find the willing suspension of disbelief
Revisado: 04-14-25
Good enough story line for a standard romance novel, but painfully unbelievable. Now, I know most stories of this sort are, but - I couldn’t get past F never once mentioning M to L, when they were at school. Surprise! No. Enough said.

Uneven, but enjoyable
Revisado: 10-04-24
As long as you remember the “willing suspension of disbelief”, this is entertaining. The narrator has a lovely voice, but takes odd pauses mid-sentence. Also, the accents were not good. And why did one character have a NYC accent but her brother did not?

Historia
Growing up, Jessie and Hillary lived for summer, when they’d be reunited at Camp Chickawah. The best friends vowed to become counselors together someday, but they drifted apart after Hillary broke her promise and only Jessie stuck to their plan, working her way up to become the camp director. When Jessie learns that the camp will be sold, she decides to plan one last hurrah, inviting past campers—including Hillary—to a nostalgic “adult summer camp” before closing for good.

Didn’t live up to expectations
Revisado: 09-26-24
Cute, different premise. Great narrators, but cringeworthy storylines - a whole group discussion about pubic hair? A face off with a bulldozer? Overly detailed sex scenes? Sigh. Throw in the characters’ lack of ability to plainly communicate, and there you have it. I listened to the whole book because I used a credit for it.

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 09-14-24
The story did not catch my attention. I tried… read the reviews and decided to try again… still not interested. John Cho frequently lacks any inflection or animation. There were aspects of the characters I would have liked in more details; others were not enjoyable. The story had promise but the political line seemed - I don’t know, off? I did finish the book.

Historia
Adam Turner works the mid-dawn shift at his local radio station. From 12am to 6am, it’s his job to fill the airtime with old songs, inane chatter, and the occasional talkback caller. It’s a long way from his prime-time slot from over a decade ago, when he was a star in the making. Now there’s no producers, no billboards, no stakes, and not many listeners. His frequent callers are drunk students headed home from a night out, or long-range truck drivers. He is completely alone in the studio from midnight until dawn every night. And then one night at 12:45am, he gets a different kind of call.

No, no - Do hang up

I enjoyed Everyone in my family has killed some one so I wanted to hear more from Benjamin Stevenson. This one was a passably interesting concept but wow… it dragged on and then went downhill quickly. I do not recommend it.

This Psych 312 assignment just might send me off the deep end. Determining whether love at first sight really exists with Robbie Moravian as my project partner of all people? He’s the sappiest man alive, so upbeat I could scream, and clearly rooting for happy endings at every turn. How does he not learn from experience considering our own meet-cute last semester almost got us expelled? But we both need to pass this course to graduate. So we’re interviewing five random couples about their meet-cutes and relationships and spending all this time together. Which is certainly...educational.

Goofy but irresistible
Revisado: 01-25-24
The storyline was silly, and the character Robbie annoyed me at first. Marigold had a few “speeches” that went on for far too long. But I got sucked into it! Their conversations were really well written, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
