Historia
In ancient Rome, all the best stories have one thing in common - murder. In one 50-year period, 26 emperors were murdered. But what did killing mean in a city where gladiators fought to the death to sate a crowd? In A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Emma Southon examines a trove of real-life homicides from Roman history to explore Roman culture, including how perpetrator, victim, and the act itself were regarded by ordinary people. Inside ancient Rome’s darkly fascinating history, we see how the Romans viewed life and death and what it means to be human.

I was unsure at first when the posh British voice came on. She sounded like a British Siri at first for me. But that ended up being perfect delivering some hilarious statements made by the author. I laughed for every f-bomb. haha.

Historia
The Horrors of Fox Hollow Farm provides detailed insights from the original criminal investigation as well as the perspectives of the man who survived Herb's attempt on his life. This chilling book also features actual supernatural evidence - from EVPs and psychic confirmations to first-hand accounts of the disembodied hands and voices that regularly manifest on the estate.

Boring, disjointed, and unorganized
Revisado: 03-29-21
I love paranormal anything really. But this was pretty bad. I gave it a shot to Chapter 16. But I could not get over how it jumps all over the place, not in terms of plot but in terms of ideas. Like one paragraph he's talking about why they hunt for ghosts at night and then picks up mid conversation with another investigator. There's also a lot of detail that could be condensed. He treats the reader like they are stupid, reminding us every paragraph about something someone felt or heard two seconds ago. We get it. We can make the connection.
However, have I written a book? No, so this is just my opinion as a reader, and I did not enjoy the book nor the narration.

Historia
Forced to come to grips with his understanding of the past - and its implications for the present - Roberts deftly moves between "then" and "now," ignorance and understanding, in honest, confessional prose that places the reader front and center for a true story that, indeed, is far stranger than fiction. Obsessive in nature and elliptical in structure, Roberts' story ultimately inhabits the liminal space between truth and appearances, love and danger, the hunter and the hunted.

If you want to know what NOT to say to any LGBTQ person, listen to this.
The scoreboard killer is a really chilling character, but this guy’s thought process is a true horror story.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Anyone who loves true crime and catching the details of GSK will love this. It gets so personal with the survivors, investigators, families, friends, and, of course, Paul Holes. Really well done. Covers the ups and downs of working cold cases. Really shows how it was the effort of so many people to catch Joseph James Deangelo.
