Of the hundreds of Audiobooks I've listened to, this is the first one that brought me to tears. It was surprisingly historical and gave me insight to the Okies in my family.

I finished this several days ago, but it still is top-of-mind with me. It proves the adage that we are doomed to repeat our history, which we are doing right now. While learning about the fascinating life of Meagher, I was stunned by the similarity to issues dominating our American politics today.
Gerald Doyle's melodic Irish lilt added authenticity to the story, but never distracted from it.
I'm certain I'll listen to it again soon, and have recommended it to several friends who love history and politics.

I rarely listen to a book twice, but I know I'll come back to this one. Humor. Pathos. Surprisingly melded into a heartwarming story. Don't let the old-fashioned word "heartwarming" turn you away. Enjoy the story and excellent narration. i want to think many of you are sharing the pleasure of Ove.

it's extremely rare for me to listen or read a book a second time. this is the exception, albeit several months apart. I also do not typically enjoy a book told from the perspective of multiple characters. However, this one was easy to follow and I was a bit disappointed when one character ended a segment, but I was immediately drawn in to the next character. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This was the most emotional book I've ever listened to or read. I wept through portions of it. I held my breath through portions of it. I was overwhelmed by the breadth and depth of this story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

You will embarrass yourself with chuckles, belly laughs, snorts, and smeared mascara. It really is that damn funny! Only once did I think the story bogged down a bit, but that was because everything that preceded it was so hilarious.

It certainly stands out from the crowd of memoir due to the humorous treatment of life challenges that some people don't overcome. And they are issues that don't just hit you in the face with grief and helplessness, but take you on down the road of life.

One big question I had as the story unfolded was answered in the final chapters. I won't spoil it for you.

Who better to read it than the author?! No one could fully interpret her sense of timing and style.

Treat yourself to this book. But don't read it in the doctor's waiting room. Your "snortles" will disturb others in the room.

it's always interesting to read or listen to a book that is about an area or geography that you know. I was surprised to start off in such familiar territory. But that wasn't what made this book so spellbinding. Every turn was unexpected. I never knew how it was going to turn out. There was never moment of finality, not even at the very end.

The author's beautiful word pictures about an errant painting are wonderfully shared via David Pittu's narration. I wondered how likely some of the events could be, but I won't spoil it for you.
Listen, enjoy, and spend the next days and perhaps weeks pondering the morality tale.

This was my first, but not last, Preston & Child book. Thanks to Audible for bringing it to my attention. The narrator, Scott Brick. is exceptional, turning a good book into a fascinating listen. As a result, I've purchased another four, beginning with the first of the series, although I'm so curious about what happens next after Still Life With Crows.

Every time I thought the tale was becoming predictable, Preston & Child surprised me with a very unpredictable twist.

Great book! You'll enjoy it!

Former journalist Tess strays from Baltimore to, of all places, my stomping ground. So I was particularly excited to listen to one of my most favorite mystery writers. The story is as intricate as the others, and I'm accustomed to Deborah Hazlett's voice. I assume her various Baltimore dialects are spot on, but she missed it big time trying to replicate a Spanish-speaking Texan's dialect. Plus, it grated on me when locations were mispronounced, or at least they were not spoken as the locals would.I also felt like Lippman tried too hard to prove a knowledge of the new location. Looking up her bio I was surprised to see she had reported from San Antonio and does know the area well beyond what a visitor would know. Do Audible authors have the opportunity to approve the recorded version of their books?
Beyond my parochial comments about Tex-Mex dialect and the way we pronounce certain Spanish locales, I love Lippman's Tess and Hazlett's voice. I can't wait to listen to the next one.
