Historia
Three years ago, sports agent Myron Bolitar gave a eulogy at the funeral of his client, renowned basketball coach Greg Downing. Myron and Greg had history: initially as deeply personal rivals, and later as unexpected business associates. Myron made peace and moved on–until now, when two federal agents walked into his office, demanding to know where Greg Downing is.

Tried, but grew tired...
Revisado: 07-17-24
Super fan of the series, the character, the author. But this book...meh. Started perky enough, then got bogged down to the point where if I lost my place (happens sometimes) I had a hard time finding it because the story was not compelling enough to matter (or care) where I reentered. I read some less-than-glowing reviews and see I'm not alone. I might finish it, but hoping maybe I can return it at this juncture. When you get to that point--don't care how it turns out, it's time to move on to something more rewarding.

I'll keep this simple: I love the Dave Robicheaux series and also enjoyed some of his others. This one was top of that list!

Got bogged down and then didn't care...
Revisado: 06-02-22
I've enjoyed many Halen Coben books and especially the Myron Bolitar series. I liked all the characters and Win was a great character. I enjoyed the focus on Win in this book and the story started out engaging, with great narration. Then it became stalled for me, and seemed to just go in circles a bit. I tried, but couldn't stay with it. When I saw I had 7 hours left, I cut my losses and stopped listening. Oh well, can't Win them all...

Kept me interested and listening. Good pace, and just enough complexity (or lack of!) for me. Couple of times I thought self-diologue parts were extraneous or too... "something." The man knows how to tell a story!

Historia
Myron Bolitar has always dreamed about the femme fatale walking into his office and asking for help. The woman standing in his doorway has killer curves all right: She’s eight months pregnant, which kind of ruins the fantasy. Former tennis star Suzze T and her rock star husband, Lex, are both clients, and over the years Myron has negotiated his share of contracts for the power pair. But now Lex has disappeared and Suzze is in tears, fearing the online rumors questioning the baby’s paternity have driven away Lex.

Most liked it, must be me…too much and not enough.
Revisado: 01-18-22
I was so excited to first discover Harlan Cobden and the Bolitar series. I’ve read them in order which has been very rewarding, however the last two including this one, have been a let down. The characters, writing, action are all top-notch. The story gets muddy and tired in my opinion. Adding plot twists and “revelations” deep into the story seems like filler/extensions to me and I become less interested in the story the closer it gets to the end. That was not so with the first books. Perhaps I just need a break. I’ve enjoyed HC’s other novels so there’s that avenue. Going to take a break, and then go back to library book to save my audible credit for another discovery.

Story got messy for me...and who chose reader!?
Revisado: 12-29-21
I'm a fan of Harlan Coben and Myron Bolitar. Last few have felt a bit "off" for me especially this one, where the final chapters got messy with explanations which seemed to be all over the place. I actually got to the point where I didn't really care who did or said what, just wanted things to wrap up. I enjoyed the characters and story up to the final third or quarter of book. Then... oh, well. Every book can't be a winner for everyone. So for me, this was a "filler" in the series. I alternate between reading and listening (not with same book) and in my rotation, I got this "surprise narrator" and almost returned it within a few minutes of starting, thinking "who the heck chose this guy?" then saw it was Harlan Himself so I put up with what I felt actually took away from the quality of storytelling and character development (Win's "articulate" sounded lame!). OK, got that off my mind and I'll keep going in the series with fingers crossed!

Strange but slow.
Revisado: 12-08-21
After finishing "No Help for the Haunted" which I enjoyed, I got this Audible book which had great reviews (though not that many). I read NHFTH in book form, which is a quicker way to advance story than an audible book. I started listening to "Strange But True" but 1/2 hour in, I felt it was too drawn out in...something (details, trying to set mood?) such that I thought it would not satisfy. Too bad, I wanted to try another of John Searles books, and if I do, will return to the print versions.

Historia
For sports agent Myron Bolitar, the disappearance of a man he once competed against was bringing back memories, of the sport he and Greg Downing had both played and the woman they both loved. Now, among the stars, the wanna-bes, the gamblers, and the groupies, Myron is unraveling the strange, violent ride of a sports hero gone wrong, and coming face-to-face with a past he can't relive, and a present he may not survive.

Story Faded for me
Revisado: 06-29-21
I truly enjoy the characters the writing the conversations the scenes the attitudes and the setup... what has become a problem in this book and one other, is the ending seems to get way more complex than I find enjoyable trying to explain everything. Because of my first sentence I'm going to go on to the next book and I'm hoping to stay intrigued and entertained 'til the end.

Good, not great, seemed kinda long...
Revisado: 08-24-20
This book engaged me right away with the situation and the characters and I cared and look forward to listening... then at some point it just seemed like there was too many words, that the story was wallowing a bit as author went on and on, even going over similar ground or emotions. can't give examples it just felt long... I did care however and was surprised to see how much I had left so I bumped the speed to 1.25 to move things along, at least in real time. Once completed I'm glad I stuck with it, but not sure I would reach for another book by this author again soon. Would likely make a good movie someday, squeezed into less than 2 hours!

Historia
It was Christmas Eve 1968. And the astronauts of Apollo 8 - Commander Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders - were participants in a mission that took them faster (24,000 mph) and farther from the Earth (240,000 miles) than any human had ever traveled. Apollo 8 was the mission that broke humanity's absolute bond to the Earth: it was the first manned vehicle to leave the Earth's orbit. Confined within a tiny spaceship, the astronauts were aided in their journey by a computer less powerful than one of today's handheld calculators.
