ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE
Revisado: 05-31-20
Another "fiction based on truth" UFO novel, this one is something special for SO many reasons.
There are quite a few such books, novels by Whitley Strieber, Tom DeLonge, Steven Greer, and others, all are far fetched at times, but this one is by FAR the best and most entertaining. What's MOST interesting is this: A guy 2, eh, maybe 3 degrees from General MacArthur, can not only write this well, but can act/narrate with the best! This book is simply incredible. And by that I mean, so entertaining. Great story and absolutely FANTASTIC narration. So, what's so funny about this is that it's hard to swallow that someone this close, is privy to such information, can tell the story so well, and can narrate with the best. So if you have a mind like mine, it will say "HHHHMMMM, disinfo?"
I cannot recommend this book enough. If you dig the UFO scene or just like GOOD science fiction, this book will not disappoint. If this is BS I still want some more.

I can't say enough, so I'll just say... This is my favorite series, even over Dark Tower. If you like it too, the same quality is here. Think Maximum Bob kind of badassery. If you're new to it, there's HOURS AND HOURS of the same waiting for you. It's short, and cheap... pay cash, and save your credit for the Arisen 1-3 set!

Historia
Last year, Night Shade Books unleashed The Book of Cthulhu onto an unsuspecting world. Critically acclaimed as the ultimate Cthulhu anthology” and a must read’ for fans of Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos,” The Book of Cthulhu went where no collection of mythos tales had gone before: to the very edge of madness and beyond. For nearly a century, H. P. Lovecraft’s tales of malevolent Great Old Ones existing beyond the dimensions of this world, beyond the borders of sanity, have captured and held the imaginations of writers and aficionados of the dark, the macabre, the fantastic, and the horrible. Now, because you demanded more, anthologist Ross E. Lockhart has risked all to dive back into the Cthulhu canon, combing through mind-shattering manuscripts and moldering tomes to bring you The Book of Cthulhu 2, with even more tales of tentacles, terror, and madness.

Good Lovecraft is hard to come by, BUT...
Revisado: 11-05-19
...both volumes are the best collections I know of. Not super terrifying, but there are some good scary stories here, some even have that Lovecraftian twist at the end. After listening to everything I could find by H.P.L., I was left jonesing, These collections were a great fix. I forgot to mention on the review of volume 1, these could stand being remastered. Sound quality is good, but not great.

Historia
The Cthulhu Mythos is one of the 20th century's most singularly recognizable literary creations. Initially created by H. P. Lovecraft and a group of his amorphous contemporaries (the so-called "Lovecraft Circle"), The Cthulhu Mythos story cycle has taken on a convoluted, cyclopean life of its own. Some of the most prodigious writers of the 20th century, and some of the most astounding writers of the 21st century have planted their seeds in this fertile soil. The Book of Cthulhu harvests the weirdest and most corpulent crop of these modern mythos tales.

Maybe I'm too harsh but...
Revisado: 11-05-19
I don't know. I'm a huge fan of Lovecraftian horror, but this was just kind of flat. Not much horror or terror here. I've read a couple of R.E.H.'s books even, and they were GOOD, but, I don't know, I don't even remember listening to most of it. The narrator was great, no mispronouncings, great character differentiation, but it had a muffled quality overall (I hate that). This title would probably fare VERY well from a simple re-mastering of the original recording, as SO MANY on Audible need. Maybe that would have made the difference.

Very entertaining.
Revisado: 06-01-18
Everything about this book is very good. The cast, the story, and especially the style, I found the style particularly enjoyable. 22 hours can be tough, but not here, listened with ease.
As other reviewers have stated, there are some concepts here that our society(as a whole) is facing, that you haven't thought of yet, and those aspects are the best part of the experience, even though the realizations can be painful.
The only shortfall of this story, IMHO, is the AI itself. Way too easy. Way too friendly. And way too neurotic. Even with the set up, the "why", if you will, of how its personality structure takes shape, it's still just too human. And while powerful, maybe not powerful enough, realistically speaking.
What can I say though, I enjoyed the heck out of it.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

“Just meh”? Or “Regular Show for grown-ups”?
Revisado: 06-01-18
I have mixed feelings about this one. It was… PRETTY good, but not hilarious. It dipped into a silliness that spoiled a lot of the other humor for me. Like, it left the realm of comedy, and entered into the cartoonish. Plus it was so short. This is a title I would return, but the reviews are so good I may give the next story a shot, or maybe The Wrong Unit… maybe I missed something.
Speaking of cartoons though, it’s a dead ringer for Regular Show. I mean really. No, REALLY. I had to go consult the oracle(Google) and see if Mr. Dircks was a writer for said cartoon. Apparently he’s just a big fan. 8)
Surprisingly, his narration was good. I’m always hesitant on fiction narrated by the author, but he was very good in fact. That's rare.
I guess we’ll see. There’s a ton on my wish list right now.
