This is dumb
Revisado: 11-18-24
I couldn't tell if this was a parody or not.
It's kind of obvious the author is on the outside, attempting to look in by repeating what others say about "witchcraft."
BTW, I'm on the "inside" and some of this is so outlandish, I think the author's source material was Reddit or Wikipedia.

Way too long
Revisado: 07-18-24
I've been a Stephen King reader and fan since I was a teenager in the 1980s. He's also a master story teller, so unfortunately I was really disappointed in this book. Unlike most of his really long stories that are like two (sometimes three) stories in one, this was one story about one thing, that was dragged on and on, happening with the same people in one little town.
I'm surprised the editor and publisher didn't cut a quarter of it out. I got disinterested several times because it was the same thing happening, over and over. Yawn. It would have been so much better to tighten it up because the idea was good, and creepy, and getting there was creepy and weird and gross.

Historia
The 10 enlightening (and often humorous) lectures of Medieval Myths and Mysteries will show you how far from the “dark” times of legend these centuries were. Uncover the facts about the Knights Templar. Reveal the truth behind the tales of legendary creatures like the Questing Beast and the unicorn. Trace the events of the Black Death and the ways it altered the world in its wake, and much more. With Professor Armstrong, you will dig deep into the ways that later generations reshaped the narrative of the medieval years and perpetuated the myths.

There is a reason Medieval History is the subject and/or time frame of pop culture! Game of Thrones, anyone?
Revisado: 05-30-24
You don't have to be a history nerd to enjoy this! Every chapter was so interesting, and it was presented by a professor lecturer with contagious passion for this stuff!
I was striking out with books, but this was a home run! I'm definitely going to be checking out more lectures

Engaging Story about Deep Ideas
Revisado: 05-10-24
This is a perfect listen for someone who wants to know a little bit about the thinking behind how we got to physics today. It's weird to think about all the profound ideas of how our world works.
I agree with Einstein about the magnitude of true north on a compass. pun intended.

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Stephen King is a master storyteller.
I love his metaphors. Great for work or during commute, but I needed to look up the list of characters because there's a lot in a book this thick about people.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

I keep forgetting that Dracula's brides are a big part of the story. This was so good but had me cracking up at the old ways of thinking and customs and societal class.
I wish men were as free in expressing their feelings as the were back then and in this story.
This story must have raised some eyebrows when it came out.

Had to Stop. Sexualization of Heroine was GROSS
Revisado: 08-09-23
Men,listen. When you compliment a woman on how she looks, and especially hit her up for a date, it makes her uncomfortable and sometimes even threatened. I know men don't realize this, and that's part of the problem. Men don't imagine themselves as prey animals who can quickly and easily be physically helpless.
I can't believe the author had her hit on twice in the first hour, and that how her beauty and physique was described countless times. You're a hack if you have to resort to this overused trip within the first hour.

Stephen King is "the Master of Storytelling" for a reason, and this does not disappoint!
This is one of his kid "adventure" stories that astounds instead of scares. So good!
I laughed, I cried, and I found myself listening to this story nearly everywhere I went. It was for my work from home day, but found that the story was distracting me from work because it was so engaging and yes,,,,enchanting.
The narrator was impeccable. Lots of character voices, with zero cringe responses.

Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Engaging Stories with a Great Storyteller
Revisado: 06-26-23
I listen to to this at night and fall asleep to it because the narrator has such a charming and smooth voice. So every night, I restart it to where I last remembered. It took me probably three weeks lol.
The narrator is the best I've heard. He's a storyteller -- not a "reader" who makes you feel like you're 8 years old getting ready to by a quirky librarian.
Obviously these stories are written to read and enjoy; they are not academic studies, so don't let the snobs diswade you.
