Historia
Meet our heroine, Mo. She’s every dyke’s dream—or so she’s been told by her kind and supportive friends. She’s shy but passionate, politically aware, as committed to her egalitarian all-womyn’s softball team as she is to her volunteer work at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center. So why can’t she find a girlfriend? Could it possibly be because she’s more judgmental than Gertrude Stein and more self-sabotaging than Bojack Horseman?

Excellent adaptation of a much loved work!
Revisado: 06-03-23
I’ve been a DTWOF lover for about thirty years, and was super excited when I heard about this project. I tried keeping my expectations low, but I still really wanted it to be a great time. That said, it completely blew my hopes away. The casting was perfect, they had great chemistry, and it really was like visiting with old friends. What a great start to Pride month! I know a second installment is probably too much to ask for, but if there is one, you can bet I’ll be adding it to my library as soon as humanly possible.

Historia
Gabourey Sidibe - "Gabby" to her legion of fans - skyrocketed to international fame in 2009 when she played the leading role in Lee Daniels' acclaimed movie Precious. In This Is Just My Face, she shares a one-of-a-kind life story in a voice as fresh and challenging as many of the unique characters she's played onscreen. With full-throttle honesty, Sidibe paints her Bed-Stuy/Harlem family life with a polygamous father and a gifted mother who supports her two children by singing in the subway.

I don't often write reviews
Revisado: 06-26-17
I don't often write reviews, but I enjoyed this book so much, I have to sing its praises. I've admired Ms. Sidibe since she debuted in Precious, and my appreciation has only grown as I've seen other sides to her talent in The Big C and Empire. What I hadn't known before this book was how utterly charming, funny, and smart she is. Listening to this book was like meeting a delightful new friend, and I absolutely hated to reach the end. This is less of a celebrity memoir and more like an audiobook version of hanging with the coolest girl at the party. Whether she's describing her parents' unconventional marriage, her unexpected stardom, or her history of weight issues, Gabourey always makes it feel real and honest, with a wry sense of humor that pokes as much fun at the dark spots as the bright ones. I hope to see (and hear!) more of her deliciously unique take on the world in the years to come.

Historia
When he is four years old, Jack travels with his mother Alice, a tattoo artist, to several North Sea ports in search of his father, William Burns. From Copenhagen to Amsterdam, William, a brilliant church organist and profligate womanizer, is always a step ahead–has always just departed in a wave of scandal, with a new tattoo somewhere on his body from a local master or “scratcher.”

Save Your Credits
Revisado: 04-05-10
I chose this book because I've enjoyed every other John Irving book I've tried, and was eager to fall into another. I really, really, REALLY wish I'd saved my credits. This book is terrible. It's boring, repetitive, and pretty much the only thing in it that isn't done better many times over in his other work is the way that almost every woman becomes sexually obsessed with the protagonist. If the character were an adult throughout, I'd write that off as author wish fulfillment, but it's kind of sick when the character is a small child. I'm a porn-positive person, but this isn't even pornographic - it's just tasteless and bad. I'm now about halfway through the second installment (of four), and am engaged in an endurance test to see if I can make myself finish it. This is every minor flaw found in Irving's work magnified a thousandfold, without any of the charm or warmth that makes his other work so worthwhile. Save your credits, save your time, I wish I had done the same.
