Since one of the main characters was an enlisted sailor. Jeff Schaara should have researched the Navy enlisted rank structure by purchasing a copy of the Bluejacket's Manual circa 1940.
He uses Navy rates and ratings incorrectly. There was no E-1 or E-2 rank in 1940. The E-1 to E-7 designated rank structure came into being in 1946. You graduated from Navy Boot Camp as a third class seaman or fireman and then were promoted to second class and finally first class seaman or fireman.
The hospital corpsman was known as a Pharmacists mate.

There was so much information provided that I will need to listen to the book a second time (this time with an atlas open) in order to digest it all.
I had assumed that it was the conglomerate makeup of the Austro-Hungarian forces that caused their debacle. The "Collision of Empires" clarifies the many other reasons that the Austro-Hungarian Forces did so badly in WW-I...

I am a fan of WEB Griffin books and have listened to every one of them. While I enjoyed this book; the plot doesn't match up to earlier books!
