The Narration…
Revisado: 02-23-24
I’m sorry. I hate to be a hater. I truly do but… the narration sounds like AI, delivered by a robot on valium. The attempt at a Scottish accent (I assume it was Scottish but it came across more as Romanian, translating English via Wales) was SO bad, so horrible, so utterly cringe, I actually had to pause the story and take a few deep breaths. Aaaaaaaaaaaargg! I swear I wouldn’t write this unless it truly was that bad.

As with all JF’s books. They are tonic for the soul and catnip for we sentimental fools. Can’t say enough good about this book and the series. Please, please give us some more.

Okay, Revision Time
Revisado: 02-07-24
I love everything about this book, and all of Frame’s books in general. They’re an oasis of sweetness in a really rough world, and this book is no exception. As with every book she’s written, I had the feels from start to finish and actually teared up a few times. Five, heartfelt stars for this one and I can’t wait to start the next!

Historia
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Thoroughly Enjoyed It…
Revisado: 11-17-23
The young kids might not get it but those of us with a few dings and scrapes from battles past will totally identify. The world being what it is these days, we could use a lot more books about friendship, community, comfort and good cheer. It’s the little things in life after all. Bravo!

Historia
All her life, Annie has played it nice and safe. After being unceremoniously dumped by her longtime boyfriend, Annie seeks a fresh start. She accepts a teaching position that moves her from Manhattan to a small village upstate. She’s stunned by how perfect and picturesque the town is. The people are all friendly and warm. Her new apartment is dreamy too, minus the oddly persistent spider infestation. Then Annie meets Sophie. Beautiful, charming, magnetic Sophie, who takes a special interest in Annie, who wants to be her friend.

A well-written, imaginative story but…
Revisado: 07-15-23
Okay so.. misogyny is unacceptable but misandry is perfectly fine? Got it. The men in this story are, without exception, horrific caricatures while the main character goes from flawed but decent, and very relatable, to narcissistic and megalomaniacal in the space of two chapters. The ending is absolute, industrial-grade ‘cringe’.. the humble (and fearful) peasants fawning and showering her with tribute whilst she nods regally, noblesse oblige, and sips her tea. Ugh! Books like this make me seriously question my progressive side.

Historia
The two parts of being a paranormal private investigator I could really do without are being forced to eat bananas by an animated statue with a potassium fixation, and being put on trial for murder by a self-appointed council of vampire oligarchs. To be fair, I did kind of do it (the murder, not the bananas). But I was kind of saving my girlfriend, who is kind of one of them. On top of this, I've also wound up with a primordial queen of the damned trying to strangle me in my dreams.

Funny. As. Hell!!!
Revisado: 03-10-23
There’s only one word I ca. think of that describes this series. Droll! There are some of the very few books that cause me to put them down and laugh myself silly. Slyly using and poking gentle fun at every trope and cliche from Jane Austin to Sam Spade, grinning all the while. What’s more, believe it or not, the characters are actually sentimental. It’s freakin’ perfect. Don’t waste anymore time reading this review. Get the first book in the series and read it right now! You will not be sorry.

A lovely story
Revisado: 06-09-19
I enjoyed everything about this little novella. The romance was sweet, the treatment of the intimate parts appropriate spicy yet mature and tasteful. The descriptions of the class system and it’s attendant arrogance and cruelty added to the pathos of the storyline and elicited real outrage. I found myself completely invested in the characters and was very pleased with the ending. Well done.

She had me until...
Revisado: 03-06-19
I was reading along, enjoying a light, feel good suspense novel about a secret society of accomplished ladies who come together to right wrongs and defend the underdog. They are various ages and come from differing backgrounds and walks of life but all are accomplished, well-adjusted, astute and kind. There’s intrigue but little if any violence which I found nice and very refreshing. Aaaaaand... then toward the end they tied up one of the villains and burned her feet off with a blowtorch. The “WTF” factor was pretty much off the charts for me and I doubt I’ll continue with the series. I mean sheesh! The villain was bad but she wasn’t even hat bad.
