Thank GOD you got a new narrator!
Revisado: 08-24-18
I had the previous release of this audiobook that was narrated by J. Charles, and my god was it horrible. I love this book. I had it on audio cassette that had excellent narration, but when I went digital this was one of the first books I got from Audible. And I could barely finish it, J. Charels was so bad. His 'Russian' accent sounded like the Count from Sesame Street. But Scott Brick has done an excellent job on all the books he has narrated, and when I saw he re-narrated this, I jumped at the chance to get it. To everyone who has the older release- get this one instead. It's SO much better!

Historia
In 2000, Douglas Preston and his family moved to Florence, Italy, fulfilling a long-held dream. They put their children in Italian schools and settled into a 14th century farmhouse in the green hills of Florence, where they devoted themselves to living la dolce vita while Preston wrote his best-selling suspense novels. All that changed when he discovered that the lovely olive grove in front of their house had been the scene of a double-murder.

The story of the killer is only half the book.
Revisado: 06-15-18
I, like many Americans, first learned of the Monster of Florence from Thomas Harris's novel 'Hannibal', and was intrigued. And so I bought this book to learn more, and boy did I. The book is broken up into two parts. In the first, we get Douglas Preston's account of his move to Florence, his befriending the Italian journalist Mario Spezi, and Spezi's account of the history of the Monster of Florence, which he had reported on almost from the beginning. He gives a detailed account of the murders, the investigations, the numerous suspects, and the even more numerous errors committed by Italian authorities and members of the Judiciary. The second half of the book gives a fascinating look into the Italian judicial system and how easy it is for an innocent man to be vilified, harassed, and imprisoned without evidence. It tells in detail how two journalists were hounded by the Italian police and prosecutors for daring to disagree with their outlandish theories on the Monster case. All in all, this was a fascinating book that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Best book I've ever heard on making pop culture

An excellent book
Revisado: 12-02-16
This was a fascinating (pun intended) look back at the making of Star Trek. The interviews that are retold are high in detail and hold nothing back, to the point where you'll be laughing out loud at the vitriol some of these people still spew all of these years later. Recommended not just for fans of Star Trek, but for anyone who wants some insight into Hollywood history.

A fascinating book marred by a bad reading
Revisado: 11-27-13
What did you love best about Final Cuts?
The story was unique and engaging.
Who was your favorite character and why?
N/A
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
NO.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
This is a good book marred by a bad reading. The author seldom takes a breath; if you aren't paying close attention, you can move onto the next director and not even know it. I didn't realize I was past the prologue and into the first chapter for over three minutes. Also, this book sound like it was done at the guy's house at times, and there is no editing at all. When the author makes a mistake, he pauses (the only real pauses in the narration!) goes back a few words, and starts over; pages can be heard turning as he goes through his script, and in Chapter 18, either the file is bad, or the author skipped a few lines because something is missing. That said, it's not all bad, and the material is engaging enough that I now want to buy the kindle version of the book.

What a horrible narrator
Revisado: 07-01-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Fire this narrator and get someone else.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jack Ryan has always been my favorite character in these books.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
J. Charles is HORRIBLE. His Russians all sound like Count Dracula, his Robbie sounds like a white southern hick, which wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that Robbie is A BLACK MAN. He rushes through the story, barely pausing to take a breath. I have listened to other Tom Clancy audiobooks. Heck, I had another copy of this very book, but lost it and decided to replace it with the Audible version. This guy is horrible and I hope that he doesn't narrate any other Clancy books.
Did The Hunt for Red October inspire you to do anything?
Not really.
Any additional comments?
Great book, horrible narrator.
