Historia
First published in 1865, these endearing tales of an imaginative child's dream world by Lewis Carroll, pen name for Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, are written with charming simplicity. While delighting children with a heroine who represents their own thoughts and feelings about growing up, the tale is appreciated by adults as a gentle satire on education, politics, literature, and Victorian life in general.

Is this what I've been missing?
Revisado: 12-06-11
Some books are meant to be read at certain moments in a person's life in order to be fully appreciated:
-Catcher in the Rye
-Diary of Anne Frank
I hope this is the case for this book, as my adult mind failed to surpass the lack of story, coherence and the truly uninteresting protagonist.
I never read this book before now and only had the Disney adaptation to help me muddle through it. I didn't like the animated version either.
I may give it another try for a younger audience when the time comes but for the moment, I may have to admit that I'm not a Victorian era schoolgirl and therefore don't get most of the references in this book.

Historia
Jaws is the classic blockbuster thriller that inspired the three-time Academy Award-winning Steven Spielberg movie and made millions of beachgoers afraid to go into the water. Experience the thrill of helpless horror again—or for the first time!

Just when you thought it was safe...
Revisado: 12-06-11
Not since Forest Gump have I appreciated the skills it takes in taking an average novel and transforming it into a cinematic masterpiece.
While Jaws isn't bad in itself, it may leave those expecting a deeper understanding of the movie's characters a little disappointed. Without spoiling anything, let's say that Hooper should have spent more time on the boat and less time socializing with the locals.
Nevertheless, it offers an interesting perspective into the sociological, economic and personal effects of an unknown element (the shark) disrupting a fragile environment (Amity's summer economy) and for that reason I still recommend it for fans of that Carcharodon carcharias.

Historia
Once vast swathes of the globe were coloured imperial red and Britannia ruled not just the waves, but the prairies of America, the plains of Asia, the jungles of Africa and the deserts of Arabia. Just how did a small, rainy island in the North Atlantic achieve all this? And why did the empire on which the sun literally never set finally decline and fall?

Fantastic introduction to the British empire
Revisado: 12-01-11
This is an ideal book for anybody interested in understanding the rise and fall of the British empire. Although it covers centuries of history, it transitions from eras and countries very well and leaves us wanting to know more (but in a good way).
The author gives a great performance with gives it a sincere angle as we detect passion and even sarcasm in some sections.
I'm looking forward to reading other books from Niall Ferguson.

Historia
The first book of Day by Day Armageddon took us deep into the mind of a military officer and survivor as he made a New Year's resolution to start keeping a journal. The man kept his resolution and brought to us the fall of humanity, day by day. We see the man transition from the life that you and I live to the prospect of fighting for his very survival against the overwhelming hordes of the dead. We see him bleed, we see him make mistakes, we witness him evolve.

Great follow-up to the original
Revisado: 08-24-11
While the first book made me feel a little frustrated with its length, this 2nd installment gives just the right amount of high-tech and low-tech zombie survival, conspiracy theories, and of course, zombies. I look forward to seeing what the author will do with the twist presented at the end (although in hindsight, we should have seen it coming).
Enjoy.
