Narration does full justice to a fabulous story
Revisado: 03-06-21
As I read this mesmerizing work I was gripped by the characters and their story. When I finished, I could not let it go. As I thought about listening to the audio version I pondered what kind of narrator it needed. I decided that it needed a male voice. When I found this on Audible I was delighted. Then I listened. Nicholas Boulton’s narration was ideal! Getting Christian’s speech difficulties right was crucial to an audio version and Boulton’s rendering was spot on.

Historia
Grace Coulter has been hiding in the kitchen of her family restaurant since she was eight years old. That's when the name-calling began. Stretch, skinny-minny, boy in girl's clothes, all because of the slender height that had her towering over even the tallest boys in the class. Now, nearly thirty years later, Grace is head chef of the failing restaurant and still hiding in the kitchen. Like many businesses during the current recession, Coulter's may have to start laying off employees or even close.

Heartwarming and original
Revisado: 11-17-19
One of the best aspects of “A Slice of Life” was the originality of both Hank’s character, a caring and gregarious bus driver and the painfully shy Grace.
The plot was also fresh and original.
At first I did not care for the narrator’s voice but quickly came to realize that in addition to being well suited to Grace’s character and the sweetness of the story.
I liked that there was enough introspection from Grace and Hank to be able to understand them, but unlike many novels didn’t cross the line into tedium or self-indulgence.

Liked everything but the leading lady
Revisado: 09-19-19
The story overall was good. The pace was good, the story action was interesting , and the characters were well-drawn. The performances were excellent.
I did not like Catherine. She was selfish, self-absorbed, unforgiving and nasty to anyone outside her friend circle. Apart from Jackson’s near death hospital stay, she contributed very little to her relationship with Jackson and was quick to give up on them during any storm. Jackson was a wonderful character.

Historia
Callie Franklin doesn't do one night stands. Ever. She's far too responsible and focused on her career to ever let herself give in to temptation. But, on the eve of her best friend's wedding, she meets that temptation...and his name is Devin McAllister. Devin, on the other hand, has no problem with meaningless hookups. The very last thing he needs - or wants - is a relationship. Relationships come with strings. Relationships come with heartbreak. A late-night encounter in the hotel's piano bar finds the two unable to resist each other.

Good story
Revisado: 09-07-19
I liked the story. It unfolded well and believably. The warmth of Devon’s family was a strong story anchor and provided a nice juxtaposition with the nastiness of Songbird’s mother.
The narration often fell into a mechanistic delivery, especially when Devon was speaking. I found it unappealing. At other times the narration was fine.

Heartfelt Reconciliation Story
Revisado: 08-23-19
I liked the hero/heroine of the story. A man who who look at home on Duck Dynasty, Silas is a taciturn, reclusive metal work and stained glass artist. His estranged wife, Cassandra, is a painter whose life and marriage did not live up to her youthful dreams. Day by day, step by step the couple changes, comes to terms with issues that had earlier torn their marriage apart.

One of the best of the series
Revisado: 08-11-19
I read the Ninja prequel first and I am glad I did. It added dimension to Happily Ever Ninja. The underlying issues in Greg and Fiona’s marriage are overlaid with their mundane challenges, their strong mutual love, Greg’s insecurity and a fantastic adventure that lasts the bulk of the story. As in life all their issues are not wrapped up and tied with a pretty bow. This story has bits that are outrageous, poignant, hilarious, or wise. As with all the novels in this series, the friendship of the Tuesday knitting circle plays a vital role in the story.

Hilarious story exquisitely rendered
Revisado: 08-01-19
I really liked the first book in the Cake Series, but J. Bengtsson blew it completely out of the water with Kyle and Kinsey’s story. This book is hilarious! Kyle and Kinsey are perfect for one another and the development of Kyle and Jake’s back story is spot-on. While it can be read as a freestanding book, I think it would be far more enjoyable read in order. Either way I highly recommend it.
Like the story, the narrators are perfect. Zachary Webber nailed it with his portrayal of Kyle. His nuanced performance was perfect! Andi Arndt’s portrayal of Kinsey was also spot on.

Meaty, warm saga of prairie life
Revisado: 09-27-16
This book is part of a series which became a series of series. I have read or listened to the entire saga and it wouldn't let me go. This is my second round and it is every bit as good as the first. This is one of my qualifications for a 5-star book.
The settlement of Blessing is taking shape. They now have a school, a church, a general store, a blacksmith and a railroad runs through it. More people, some family, have immigrated from Norway, an old woman of French Canadian-Native American ancestry has brought her healing skills to the community full time. Others have travelled from Missouri and instead of passing through have found a home. These are the bare bones, but the stories are much, much more. I highly recommend it.
I gave the narration 4-stars simply because she read very fast. I tried to slow the narration (a first for me), but 25% slower was too slow. She has a pleasant voice and told the story well.
