Finally a good narrator
Revisado: 09-23-24
With the constant and very annoying change or narrators, a winner had been found. I appreciated the different voices of Uhtred’s men and enemies.

Historia

While his son, Edward, has been named his successor, there are other Saxon claimants to the throne - as well as ambitious pagan Vikings to the north. The mispronunciation of names and places!
Revisado: 09-16-24
I truly wish the publisher would have stuck with a single narrator for this series. I couldn’t stop correcting mispronunciations in my head! It was confusing at first to figure out what character the narrator was speaking about. But as least the mispronunciations were consistent. Great series but jarring when the narrator changes and is so different than the first few books.

Good story, choppy narration
Revisado: 01-20-24
The editor did the narrator no favors. Even before a sentence ended a new chapter would sometimes be announced. Very choppy.

When Frank Meyer and his family are executed during a home invasion, the police begin investigating the secret life they're sure Meyer had. Joe Pike's on a hunt of his own: to clear his friend's name, and to punish the people who murdered him. What starts out as a simple trail gets twisted fast by old grudges, double crosses, blood vengeance, and a crime so terrible even Pike and his partner Elvis Cole have no way to measure it.

Joe Pike with a little Elvis Cole.
Revisado: 01-12-24
Joe Pike always reminds me of Jack Reacher, bad assed and mysterious. The books featuring Pike are a little edgier and dark — and my favorite in this duo series.

An okay mystery with questionable narration
Revisado: 12-30-23
Like fingernails on a chalkboard to listen to the narrator say La Cienega Blvd. or Sepulveda Boulevard. If you’re not sure how to pronounce names, ask someone. Or Editor, for God sakes, correct mispronunciations. The accents were all pretty funny, but it was the mispronunciations that were killing me.

Historia
With a disarming mix of charm and Tammany-hewn toughness, Rosenberg began her career in public relations in 1920s Manhattan. As FDR's unofficial adviser, Rosenberg soon wielded enormous influence—no less potent for being subtle. Her extraordinary career continued after his death. By 1950, she was tapped to become the assistant secretary of defense—the highest position ever held by a woman in the US military—prompting Senator Joe McCarthy to wage an unsuccessful smear campaign against her.

Anna M Rosenberg was a behind the scenes worker who had an enormous impact. Working with FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, LBJ, George Marshall and countless other major political figures, Anna Rosenberg was instrumental in shaping The New Deal, social security, desegregation of the military and was a labor mediator extraordinaire. It’s a fascinating read.

This Audible Exclusive performance features a unique introduction written and narrated by Miriam Margolyes. Recognised as one of Dickens' most accomplished titles, Bleak House has impressed critics and audiences alike since it was first published in 1852. The novel boasts one of the most intelligent and engaging plots in all of English literature and is sure to engage the listener's imagination as it transports us back in time to the seedy, grimy and hazardous streets of Victorian London.

Revisado: 06-07-23
Dickens creates the most interesting and memorable characters. The narrator does each one of them justice. Make or female, eccentric or haughty, she voices each of them perfectly.

Historia
Rita Todacheene is a forensic photographer working for the Albuquerque police force. Her excellent photography skills have cracked many cases—she is almost supernaturally good at capturing details. In fact, Rita has been hiding a secret: she sees the ghosts of crime victims who point her toward the clues that other investigators overlook. As a lone portal back to the living for traumatized spirits, Rita is terrorized by nagging ghosts who won’t let her sleep and who sabotage her personal life.

Excellent narration
Revisado: 03-09-23
Mystery and action with a crime photographer. Rita Todacheene is Navajo and while the story includes elements of the Navajo culture, this is a crime novel where the protagonist just happens to be Navajo. I liked that. The narrator pronounced Navajo words and those from the southwest correctly and had the cadence of Navajo down pat. Heart pounding and interesting story.

Melissa North had assumed that after eight years of not setting eyes on each other, her youthful attraction to - or an infatuation with - Julian Delamere, once Viscount Dagenham and now earl of Carsely, would have faded to nothing and gasped its last. Unfortunately, during the intervening years, she has failed to find any suitable suitor who measures up to her mark, and she is resigned to ending her days an old maid. Then she sees Julian across a crowded ballroom, and he sees her, and the intensity of their connection shocks her.

The narrator should be voicing documentaries
Revisado: 12-10-22
This was marketed as a Lady Osbaldestone’s Christmas Chronicles. It isn’t. He grand dame makes a cameo appearance and Christmas must have come and gone during this very long story, but nothing like the rest of the series. The mystery was solvable early on and the rest is romance. How I wish I would have DNF instead of wasting time on a bad book. Two starts for romance readers. Zero stars otherwise.

Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Best book of 2022
Revisado: 11-16-22
Kingsolver nails this modern retelling of David Copperfield. Think the poor and orphaned children are only of Dickens time? The author shines a harsh light of how this is still happening today. Favorite characters from the Dickens classic are beautifully rendered for the 21st century. Look for the Copperfield Easter eggs that delight. This is beautifully written and pays homage to a loved classic. Narrated perfectly for the setting.
