Historia
People come to Los Angeles to chase their dreams. Sometimes they find themselves cast into a nightmare. And sometimes, the most ardent dreamers turn out to be the most vicious monsters. The body of an aspiring actress is found dumped near a hospital emergency room. She’s been drugged and murdered and the motive for the callous crime remains maddeningly out of reach. Until, a prime suspect materializes. Another Hollywood hopeful. Only to be shot dead by a sniper using a weapon that turns out to have been catalogued in a previous murder. And another, before that.

My only issue is the continuing jarring mispronunciation of the ethnic surname Nguyen.
Please note: it is not ‘NewYen’. The closest English spelling of the correct pronunciation is Wynn, or Win.
It is easily possible to search the correct pronunciation on the net, and hear it spoken. A book out of the LA region might make this effort. Please do.

A challenging listen
Revisado: 10-07-23
As a non-French speaking American I was lost in the French names - without which the story simply could not be told! My strategy became one of allowing the sheer constancy of the poisonings of the disliked or the merely “inconvenient”.
Gave pause for reflection on measures the powerless in earlier societies may have chosen in evening scores.

Read this because I have old family roots in Appalachia.
The book was jammed with fact after fact - difficult to attend to these as writer seemed not to corral them into overarching themes. Overall impressed with the intelligence, organizational abilities, loyalty of the uneducated country folk so often “misunderestimated” in modern America.

Historia
Vain and charismatic Walter Sickert made a name for himself as a painter in Victorian London. But the ghoulish nature of his art - as well as extensive evidence - points to another name, one that's left its bloody mark on the pages of history: Jack the Ripper. Cornwell has collected never-before-seen archival material - including a rare mortuary photo, personal correspondence and a will with a mysterious autopsy clause - and applied cutting-edge forensic science to open an old crime to new scrutiny.

Glad all descriptions were clinical. It was fascinating to have a look into what in all likelihood, was the mind, of JTR. My background includes early childhood development, psychology, and years working in acute psychiatry & dual diagnosis. A satisfying further look at WRS. Thank you.

Historia
These 36 lectures tell the remarkable story of a tumultuous thousand-year period in the history of England. Dominated by war, conquest, and the struggle to balance the stability brought by royal power with the rights of the governed, it was a period that put into place the foundation of much of the world we know today. As you journey through this largely chronological narrative you'll see key themes emerge, including the assimilation of successive waves of invaders, the tense relationship between kings and the nobility, and the constant battles over money and taxation.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Revisado: 08-22-22
I liked the calm presentation of the factual history of which most Americans are unaware. An absence of rhetoric fosters the cumulative impact of the America faced by American Blacks. The topic of the under-caste in Indian society was also illustrative of the burden colorism has brought elsewhere.
The mix of the academic, and personal anecdote kept my interest throughout. Highly recommend.
