In October 1997, the town of Ringgold, Georgia, was shaken by reports of a murder in its midst. A dead woman was found in Alvin Ridley's house—and even more shockingly, she was the wife no one knew he had.

Touching hometown story
Revisado: 10-08-24
I loved this story. Being from this area in Northwest Georgia, I found it so reflective of my own experience. The author does an amazing job of communicating a touching story that the main character couldn’t or wouldn’t really tell. Highly recommend!

Historia
The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible beautifully rendered the Scriptures into the language of turn-of-the-17th-century England. Even today, the King James version is the most widely read Bible in the United States. The rich cadence of its Elizabethan English is recognized even by non-Christians. But English has changed a great deal over the last 400 years and in subtle ways that very few modern readers or listeners will recognize.

Intelligent illumination to a Clouded Conflict
Revisado: 11-26-19
As someone who has been wounded in the conflict over Bible translation disputes because of my innate suspicion (as opposed to academic assurance), this book was enlightening. Although highly educated, Dr. Ward made easily accessible arguments that are extremely difficult to refute. At the same time, Mark maintains a delightful combination of winsomeness, respect, and grace dealing with a subject that is infamous for generating a whole lot of heat and very little light.
As far as the production of the audio version of this book, I was thrilled with Dr. Ward's wide range of voice inflection and first person speaking presence. His wit and humor, which could be detected in reading the book, was taken to a whole new level! I belly laughed at some of the remarks that only make a chuckle in the books reading. I eagerly await listening to his next audio book!

Historia
In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.

I enjoyed this audio drama. I had heard of the Christmas Eve ceasefire of 1914, but this had brought it to life.

Could not stop listening!
Revisado: 12-14-18
I so enjoyed this book. Although not far into it, I thought of turning it off simply because my heart could not take the vivid account from Mrs. Burnham, I pressed on to find a refreshingly honest account of Christian frustration in the mystery of prayer, as well as the amazing Grace of God that transcends the most horrific of circumstances. Martin Burnham is such a towering, yet real and approachable figure in the book. For me, he is a touching example of the husband, father, and (most importantly) the Christian I want to be! Excellent book! Very well read by Pam Ward!

John Henry Newton (1725 - 1807) was an Englishman, Anglican clergyman, and a former slave-ship captain. He was the author of many hymns, including "Amazing Grace". Here is a fascinating, colorful, and historically significant portrait of the slave-trader-turned-Christ-follower.
