Historia
An all-new Dresden Files story headlines this urban fantasy short story collection starring the Windy City's favorite wizard. From the Wild West to the bleachers at Wrigley Field, humans, zombies, incubi, and even fey royalty appear, ready to blur the line between friend and foe. In the never-before-published "Zoo Day", Harry treads new ground as a dad, while fan-favorite characters Molly Carpenter, his onetime apprentice, White Council Warden Anastasia Luccio, and even Bigfoot stalk through the pages of more classic tales.

Hampered by the variance in narrators
Revisado: 08-06-18
I thought the stories were really good but the narration was spotty.
The narrators for the Molly and Lucio stories were very weak. Found my mind wandering regularly during those stories and that doesn't usually happen with Butcher's writing.
Jim Butcher doing the Marcone story was better but still not strong.
Marster's narration was great as always.
The surprise in the bunch was the Butters story. Great choice for a narrator here.

Christopher Snow is the best-known resident of 12,000-strong Moonlight Bay, California. This is because 28-year-old Chris has xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), a light-sensitivity so severe that he cannot leave his house in daylight, cannot enter a normally-lit room, cannot sit at a computer.

Interesting but uneven
Revisado: 11-17-17
The story was interesting but would drag at times. Part of this may have been the narrator - while he wasn't a bad narrator his reading sometimes lacked variance and he seemed to drone on and on.
Still, it was interesting enough that I will probably get the next book.

A bit simplistic but still very pleasing
Revisado: 11-13-17
Nice coming of age story with very likable characters. Somewhat simplistic in plot but still enjoyable.
I think it would have benefited from a different narrator. John Keating wasn't bad but I felt his delivery slowed the story down.
Definitely a family friendly book.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

A really fun ride
Revisado: 07-15-17
Overall score should really be about 4.5. The story itself was probably a 4 but the presentation and unfolding of the story was deserving of a 5.
Had a good cast of characters and, as stated previously, it was extremely entertaining watching the characters delve deeper into the weirdness around them.
The narrator can totally make or break the listening experience and Ray Porter was definitely a plus. Did a good job of making it easy to distinguish the characters and did a good job of changing the pacing/tone of his reading to match the situations.
Fun book!

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Great job on this!
Revisado: 07-02-17
While in general I have been burned out on the whole Alien franchise for a while now I thought the sample sounded promising so I went ahead and purchased this and am really glad I did.
Great performances all around with really good use of sound effects.
This is one of the better examples of what dramatized stories should be like.

Weak

While I ultimately liked the resolution of the story itself I found the presentation to be extremely boring. I felt like hardly anything was happening and I really had to force myself to finish it even though it was only a little over 2 hours long.

Historia
Alex Verus is part of a world hidden in plain sight, running a magic shop in London. And while Alex's own powers aren't as showy as some mages, he does have the advantage of foreseeing the possible future-allowing him to pull off operations that have a million-to-one-chance of success. But when Alex is approached by multiple factions to crack open a relic from a long-ago mage war, he knows that whatever's inside must be beyond powerful.

One of the better urban fantasy books
Revisado: 07-02-17
Really enjoyed the author's writing style and I think he is doing a good job of building an extended cast of recurring characters - a MUST in any ongoing series. Liked his handling of the magic system in his world as well. One of the problems I have with a lot of urban fantasy books is that the main characters are jerks but I really like Alex Verus so far.
The only problem I had with the narrator is that he seemed way older than I pictured the character to be in the novels. When I decided to take this as an older narrator recounting stories of his life then I really enjoyed his performance. Pleasure to listen to - loved the accent.

Pretty good if you like UFO stories
Revisado: 07-02-17
As far as the story goes, I really enjoyed the handing of the UFOs and their origins. This particular book though seemed like it lacked an ending. That tends to be this author's style but on the flip-side, he then does a good job of continuing the story in subsequent books to the point that you feel like you've read one long story rather than multiple books in a series. If that type of storytelling annoys you then you might want to avoid this series and pick a different one. While I found this series enjoyable, I prefer the author's Atlantis series over this one as far as the reading experience. I haven't listened to the audible version of that series yet though so I can't speak to how good the audio versions are.
As far as the narrator goes, I wish the rating system offered half stars. I consider 3 stars to be adequate but Kafer's performance was above adequate just not quite into the good or great. In his defense... I felt almost like I was reading mission briefings rather than reading a story but, given the military aspect of the book, maybe that was intentional...
