Historia
Growing up in New Jersey as the only African American Muslim at school, Ibtihaj Muhammad always had to find her own way. When she discovered fencing, a sport traditionally reserved for the wealthy, she had to defy expectations and make a place for herself in a sport she grew to love. From winning state championships to three-time All-America selections at Duke University, Ibtihaj was poised for success, but the fencing community wasn't ready to welcome her with open arms just yet.

What an amazing fighter
Revisado: 06-27-20
I never imagined that Ibtihaj had it this tough as a woman and a black in such a sport that looked so elegant to the outsider. Add the hijab on top of it all and you have the story of a young fighter who never gave up. Also, we all need to talk about parents who raise hate filled kids.

So similar with what was done to Palestinians
Revisado: 06-19-20
So sad to hear this book. How many lives lost. How many lives disrupted. How much injustice Europeans did in this world. The same thing they did to Palestinians . All in the name of God,

Historia
Sayed Kashua has been praised by The New York Times as "a master of subtle nuance in dealing with both Arab and Jewish society". An Arab-Israeli who lived in Jerusalem for most of his life, Kashua started writing with the hope of creating one story that both Palestinians and Israelis could relate to, rather than two that cannot coexist together. He devoted his novels and his satirical weekly column published in Haaretz to telling the Palestinian story.

An amazing book that shows how colonialism is still alive in Palestine and what remains of it.

Historia
Before the nightmares began, Yeong-hye and her husband lived an ordinary, controlled life. But the dreams—invasive images of blood and brutality—torture her, driving Yeong-hye to purge her mind and renounce eating meat altogether. It’s a small act of independence, but it interrupts her marriage and sets into motion an increasingly grotesque chain of events at home. As her husband, her brother-in-law, and sister each fight to reassert their control, Yeong-hye obsessively defends the choice that’s become sacred to her.

Interesting
Revisado: 06-27-16
Mental illness and being vegetarian is some thing interesting indeed! It would have been better if the narrator had a bit of a Chinese accent.
