In existence for decades, ERGs originated out of affirmative action policies and have evolved into powerful sources of employee activity and engagement. Organizations can leverage ERGs to support business goals, but ERGs can also play a critical role in creating a more inclusive work environment for marginalized individuals.

Historia
While growing up in housing projects in Puerto Rico and Miami Beach, Jaquira Diaz found herself caught between extremes: as her family split apart and her mother battled schizophrenia, she was surrounded by the love of her friends; as she longed for a family and home, she found instead a life upended by violence. From her own struggles with depression and sexual assault to Puerto Rico's history of colonialism, Ordinary Girls vibrates with music and lyricism.

for the unseen
Revisado: 09-20-22
Occasionally the audio wasn't fluid but it wasn't enough to take away from the story and likely more an editing correction needed.
As for the story, it felt like an ode to the old neighborhood, families, and failed systems so many of us survived. A reminder that our journeys are fluid and moments of struggle are just that-moments.

Historia
The inspiring, unlikely, laugh-out-loud story of how one woman learned to lead - and how she ultimately succeeded, not despite her many mistakes, but because of them. This is the story of how Kristen Hadeed built Student Maid, a cleaning company where people are happy, loyal, productive, and empowered, even while they're mopping floors and scrubbing toilets.

Human Leadership
Revisado: 12-09-20
Not your typical business /self help /leadership book and that's why it's perfect. if you want to lead like a robot this isn't for you, if you like things very cookie cutter, also not for you. But, if you're looking for something that allows for a nuance approach to problem solving as each person you interact with is unique, this is your book. It's not going to give you the answers you want to hear but the answers you need to listen to.

Historia
You’ve heard of an Essex Girl or even a Chelsea Girl, but what about a Hounslow Girl? Definition of a Hounslow Girl: a young Muslim woman who wears hooped earrings with her headscarf and grapples with traditional values while hustling her way through urban London. The Diary of a Hounslow Girl is a bold and provocative one-person play, written and performed by Ambreen Razia. From the joys of traditional Pakistani weddings to fights on the night bus, this is a comic story of dreams, aspirations and coming of age, told through the eyes of a 16-year-old British Muslim girl.

Unique and worth the listen
Revisado: 04-24-19
It took at least a chapter to really understand what was happening, now I know it was intentional as this teen comes of age and grapples with cultural norms and expectations of her family and society. I was sad when it was over because I wanted to know more about the main characters next steps, but it was wonderful to listen to in the end.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

The best audible experience. Period.
Revisado: 08-31-18
The narrator is phenomenal. You hear the various characters and feel their presence. I felt engaged because of her and thank you for that.
The book covers very hard topics from a perspective that can be difficult to articulate to people who don't experience it or have to deal with the hardship associated with race, cultural norms, class, identity, and a whole slue of other issues, relationship dynamics especially with mixed race couples, and what it means, feels like, and or looks like to Trust--in people, community, partners, family, and those in "higher authority".
Be prepared as you will experience a roller coaster of emotion. I mourned the loss of a character as if it was my own family member. I appreciate the books ability to challenge my perspectives. You must listen to this book!

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

thought provoking
Revisado: 08-29-17
Very risky, but also very thought provoking. I rarely ever heard anyone speak about the challenges of mental health or dealing with your past, breaking social norms in respects to romantic relationships, and just in general relationship norms/expectations presented by the author (whether intentional or not).
