I had a really good time listening to this book. I only wish audible had more of J. Zachary Pike and narrator Doug Tisdale, Jr. I would probably buy them all.

Blame the narrator?

I read the first pages of this novel before I decided to buy the audiobook an I was really looking forward to listening to it. But Christine Marshall really took all joy out of listening. All I could think when I was listening was why she was in such a hurry. I actually couldn't finish the novel because of the bad narration. This is some of the worst case of a narrator massacring a novel.

A slow start

I started to listen to this after finishing Angus Watson Reign of Iron and I was seriously considering not listen to it all the way. But I hanged on to it and I don't regret doing it. The people and the story didn't engage in the beginning but I found myself not being able to stop listening after about half the novel. I even went straight in to buy the second novel in this triology and after finishing this review I will start listening to it too.

I don't know if it can get better than this

Angus Watson has delivered in all 3 novels in his triology. I find myself thinking of the books days after I finished the last one. It's that kind of novel you can't wait to finish and when you are finished you regret that you were in such a hurry. If you are a fan of gritty fantasy with a lof of humour in it this series is a given. I shouldn't forget the narrator, Sean Barrett is definately one of the best.

I can't wait for the second book in this series!

All lovers of gritty fantasy, Abercrombie's and Mark Lawrence's novels you are going to enjoy this one. It is a really dirty cruel world presented in this novel but at the same time it's hilarious and fun. Give it a try, it is really worth it.

Good story, Bad narrator

I really liked the story, if I hadn't I would have stopped to listen after 30 minutes because the narrator was terrible. With another narrator I might even have given the book 5 stars. The story is in the Morgan and Abercrombie tradition, ruthless fantasy.

Best debut novel in many years!

Do not miss out on this book! It is a fantasy book about believable people, idealism warring with necessities. The magical system is fresh and inventive. And to top it off you get to laugh out loud now and then. One of the best books (if not the best) I have listened to.

Christian Rodska is awesome as a narrator. He is one of the best!

So bad that I couldn't even finish it

Czerneda used to be one of my favorite authors, I have always enjoyed her sf novels. A Turn of Light is just terrible. It is like the worst romance novel ever. For example, the main person Jenn Nalynn is supposed to be 19 and acts like the most selfish totally spoiled brat about ten years old, totally unlikable. I suffered about 10 hours of listening about her going on and on about marriage and escaping from the village before I almost screamed and hit someone. Then I did the most sensible thing and turned it off.

I don't want to waste too many words on this review but save your money on this one.

Erikson continues his amazing stories.

The series Malazan Book of the Fallen is the best I have ever read. Now Erikson expands around this amazing world he built and we get to know more what came before.
