Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

The perfect book for me right now.
Revisado: 01-04-23
The author hits on many points that I have been working on. The biggest one being able to live right now and not in a future dream that never seems to arrive.
I would recommend this book to anyone. If you are looking to simplify your life or can't seem to ever be happy no matter how much you work at it. Pick up this book.

Curious about homelessness in California? The book is a great story about the ebbs and flows of California. The book answers a lof questions that are talked about between fellow CA citizens.

A long book but very good. I listened to it on and off for a few months. Learning about Boone and other stories of America and it's settlers was great. Eye opening as well to know how hard people worked to settle.

Historia
Christian identity is in moral and political crisis. Lee Camp writes “that one major reason Christianity in America has been made into a bad public joke is our failure to rightly understand what Christianity is.” Scandalous Witness provides a way forward. Although refusing to reduce Christianity to any partisan agenda, he reminds us that the gospel is inherently political and that we are called to be political witnesses.

As a person who believes fully in the teachings in Christ but is constantly confused at influential Christians going against the path of Christ this is a wonderful book that speaks to my heart. I almost cried a few times bc my soul has felt justified in many ways that my fellow Christians told me I was wrong.

Historia
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

The story I NEEDED to hear
Revisado: 05-07-21
Meandering is something I enjoy and have been told to specialize by my boss. I felt like a failure in many ways bc I didn't have a specialty but I am able to see connections across the divisions. Many times I've felt like a pest but I knew what I was saying had value.
This book proved to me what many said was a weakness was in fact a strength when used in the right way.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Probably a better movie
Revisado: 04-24-21
The story was good, the person reading it was better. I liked the action parts of the story. There is a lot of science explained to fill the gaps in the story of Mark. This made the story less entertaining to me. I think bc this story could happen in the next decade it made me less interested. I think for fiction, I need more things that are make believe.
Overall I am glad I listened to The Martian, it was a nice break from my normal non-fiction books. Next, I am going to watch the movie tk see which one I like better.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

My favorite Gladwell book and this is my third one. The topics are sensitive and thats why I enjoy it. Some.things need to be examined and understood like the Sandusky case.
Malcom is a great examiner of humans.
