Classical fantasy story that was enjoyable

Loved all of it, other than the fact that it seemed linear, Elric being an idiot at moments, as well as the dream world dragging. Other than that, extremely enjoyable, will be listening/reading the next part of the series soon.

This was a lot… and I do mean A LOT. A lot of locations, characters (multiple nicknames, and titles), Warrens and gods, and timeline changes. I think the story itself was amazing and whimsical and thoroughly enjoyable. However, it felt like I was reading more than encyclopedia than a story. The first time through. I didn’t care for it on my first grade and almost DNF’d my second book ever (not a bigDNF’er, but by 60% I did just want to give up and cut my losses. I’ve heard such great things about the series though and the magic systems and everything else within. It is right on my alley so after going to the reviews and Goodreads and seeing other peoples perspectives on tackling, this massive dictionary information. I had a good couple suggestions that I applied on both my second read three as well as my third time with Audible if you were somebody who is having trouble processing everything, someone else suggested tackling this as individual stories by segments of chapters and that helped a lot. Along with the information that I had semi understood on my first read through. Definitely gets easier if you were able to commit a second read through and then really appreciate what’s being told as far as world building. At first I would’ve rated this 2/5 stars, but now I’ll leave it as 4/5 when really I would now consider the story a 5/5 plot, but the execution of how the story is told for his first time reader of the Malazan series, taken a point off. I will be continuing and very excited to do so. I encourage all who are capable of reading it through and realizing that this is also your niche of genre to do a second read either physically or through Audible and just referred to Google or some form of chart when a location, character, or unknown entity is referenced so you can physically associate who or what that thing is too easily understand it.

Unique magic systems, weapons, and technology in a steampunk apocalyptic-dystopia. Plot & story of the author as well as the performance of the narrators were done amazingly and enjoyed my journey on this trip of tails throughout its entirety. Felt like climax with the villains (Yveun, Colette, & Fae) on the final book of the trilogy fell short (slightly) as anti-climatic and could have been pushed further, and more descriptive and cinematic. Other than that, I did feel that Elise Kova could have done without restating continuously about each characters trails with the same info already provided. I get she wanted to push these characters narratives and their whole aesthetic, but it became repetitive by book 3. Overall still played great, a little happier of an ending then I wanted, but that’s just personal preference. 5/5

I apologize but this book is my 1st ever DNF (40%). I always said I would finish every book and never DNF, but this was a tough read for me. I love books of other cultures that embrace actual history or folklore, but this one I found hard to read smoothly due to just how much different terms/titles/names there were. Not only this but the pacing of it, as well as just the story wasn’t pulling me in. The writing style left a feeling of disconnect, and forced me to try and possibly commit through audible. However, even the performance by the reader wasn’t enough to make me want to listen to it. When she told the story it still felt like a drab and bland reading. This was just my experience though, everyone should read/listen for themselves and decide. I just think this book didn’t hit the mark of my interest, which was on my part, as I specifically purchased the book on looks alone of the (UK edition & illumicrate special edition) book, as well as it being of a different cultural heritage that I was hoping to branch out to and explore.

This was an epic story with great pacing, a beautiful magic system, and remarkable characters. I loved that I thought I knew what would happen in this book at the beginning and middle and by the time I made it to the end I was satisfyingly wrong. Brandon Sanderson is an exceptional author and Michael Kramer narrated it exquisitely. 5/5 stars easily. All should read and/or listen to Mistborn: The Final Empire!!
