If you regularly feel wonder from little things, you will love this book
Revisado: 11-13-24
I really loved this synthesis of research regarding awe and wonder, happiness and neuroscience.
This is a book about, by, and for people with curious minds who often exclaim “wow!” in wonder over things other people may not notice, and the people who want to understand and maybe even be more like them.
The author weaves anecdotal stories in with hard medical science research and social science statistics in a way only a professional can. Her style is easy to listen to, readily accessible, without laboring over semantics. She brings expertise about how the brain reacts to stimuli, about the ways humans feel awe, covering the things that might inspire wonder, how to be more primed for those special experiences, and how awe and wonder are so beneficial for us.
This audible made me say “Wow!” multiple times while listening. The stories felt personal and inspiring. I was also very impressed with how well the author read her work aloud. She’s expressive and clear about her point, she builds a crescendo both with information and her enthusiasm as she reads each chapter. You’re along for the ride as she delves in to discuss her questions, her quest, and where she found her answers.
I love this book and have recommended it to many friends. I hope they experience the book, and the world, with as much wonder and awe as I do.

Stoicism for beginners
Revisado: 09-21-20
I knew nothing of the Stoics before listening to this book.
Now I feel I have a grasp on the philosophical school of thought, about the scholars who wrote the classic works on the subject, and even on how to approach life itself.
I highly recommend this work for people looking for insight on how to love a rational, fearless and meaningful life.

Self important sober person talks about himself
Revisado: 05-12-20
I can see why this was a free offering.
People who think they’re special, and would prefer to throw their roadmap out the window and then tell you how they were fumbling around without a roadmap, so they’ll draw a map up on a napkin for you, after you listen for hours about what their thoughts were while they were lost, will be able to relate.
Maybe this is the author’s writing style and you are hooked, so you will like this book.
Maybe, if this is a new author to you, you should try a different title first? I won’t ever know because I will not look into anymore of his writing.

Historia
Grant Peeples lives in a pink house. And he is not a poet who writes poems about his cats. Though a cat does get shot in a poem in My Advice to Pilgrims -after it is found killing a bird at the feeder in the front yard. The remainder of the 92 poems here are, by-in-large, void of gunfire. But all are equally unwavering in their own version of in-your-face-ness; and are patently bereft of nostalgia and sentimentality. Each poem seems to have its own point.

A poetic chronicle of our time
Revisado: 11-10-19
Peeples’ meter and verse is so well crafted it feels easy and pedestrian to the listener/reader. The subject matter is framed masterfully by an educated and informed artist who expresses righteous anger and judgement with a tone so ironic you laugh along with him at the sublime absurdness of it all.
You laugh despite the growing knot in your throat, trying to swallow down the stark biting commentary that rings true. It never grows heavy under the authentic despair and grief though, thanks to a stirring verse that grounds the piece here or a comical description there.
Critical modern allegory remains alive.
