Historia
Evan and Caris St. John own a beach house on isolated Daufuskie Island off the South Carolina coast. After a hurricane strikes the island, Caris and their three children discover a mysterious treasure chest in its wake. Unbeknownst to them, the chest has been sealed for nearly a century and a half. A mysterious Gullah woman rumored to be a witch predicted decades earlier that the family would break the seal and awaken the magic inside. The unbelievable begins to happen.

GREAT Story that will Keep All Ages Hooked
Revisado: 08-18-23
Well-written family fiction with unexpected turns and accurate historical settings. John Lueder’s writing is clever and unexpected. This book is in a genre of its own and would be great for a class to read. It’s about the magic of family, the beauty of our Nation’s history, and a love of this place, Daufuskie Island, and the people who live there. Thoroughly enjoyed the story, the writing, and the narration. Highly recommend.

Historia
It happens every year. A list is posted, and one girl from each grade is chosen as the prettiest, and another is chosen as the ugliest. Nobody knows who makes the list. It almost doesn't matter. The damage is done the minute it goes up.This is the story of eight girls, freshman to senior, "pretty" and "ugly." And it's also the story of how we see ourselves, and how other people see us, and the tangled connection of the two.

Great book but.......
Revisado: 06-11-18
It talks a lot about inner beauty mostly with Sarah. I love this book but it took me a while to get through it. While it is a great book it isn’t one you can’t put down. It is not for young readers by a long shot. I would wait till junior high before reading because of language. I am not saying I didn’t like the book but I’m not rereading it any time soon........
But again it is a wonderful book that talks about a lot of tough topics.

Story leaves you feeling cheated
Revisado: 12-30-17
I absolutely loved this book until it ended. I was addicted to it. Every single day. I listened for hours. But, I felt cheated and disappointed when the book ended. There were great storylines. All sorts of collateral relationships and things going on. The book - of course - answered the main mystery. But there were so many other things that were left hanging, unanswered. It didn’t even make you feel like you’re waiting on a sequel. It just made you feel like she was in a hurry to finish the book just ended it. So much more needed to be touched and answered. It is a shame because they wonderful storyline could have ended in extraordinary ways. But, as written, it’s disappointing.

Love this book along with the others and I have read this book twice now and everything still surprises me! I my self am 11 but read it for the first time at age 9. I cried at the end not because of the outcome but the book ending it self. My favorite part is when Sophie kisses Tedros and felt nothing! I also love the part where Agatha is in the crown and everyone kneels to her and says out of darkness comes a queen. Of corse nothing comes close to when Agatha and Sophie turn out to be sisters! I was in the car when I listened to the part about the sun coming up big and bright the next day and I looked up at the sun out my window and didn't take my eyes off it until the book ended. This is my very favorite book so far and not even Harry Potter or Percy Jackson can't even come close. I want to read more and would love to know what happens when Agatha is Queen 👑. I would like to see what happens to Sophie or if Hourt ever gets her heart 🏰. Does Agatha and Tedros have a son or daughter someday? I would like a next book but I it has Ben two years of waiting so I guess not. Again I loved the story. Dot was my personal favorite person in the story. Thank you Audible for making it possible for me to Listen to this book. The School for Good and Evil, The Last Ever After. -Mia
