Historia
The post-apocalyptic world isn't that bad. Sure, there are mutants. But, for the people of New Hope, daily life isn't so much a struggle of finding food or medicine as it is trying to find a new shortstop for their kickball team. This makes it difficult for a post-apocalyptic warrior to find work. Thankfully, an army full of killers is making its way to the peaceful town and plans to raze it to the ground. Only a fully trained post-apocalyptic nomadic warrior can stop them.

Exactly as advertised
Revisado: 06-27-24
Post-apocalyptic story that reminded me of the Fallout show but more whimsical in nature with all of the bad and none of the horror. Realistic yet humorous. Author has a great way with words. Tried this on a whim and I’m ready for the rest of the series. Can’t wait. This book is DEFINITELY as advertised and not just some book propped up by ads and marketing. You will enjoy this book. And really enjoyed the reader, too. Brings it to life and does all the voices. Great read.

This book was well written. Loved that it was written in the dialect of the days, and the reader on audible books pulled it off as well. Didn’t want the story to end!

Since time immemorial the Spires have sheltered humanity, towering for miles over the mist-shrouded surface of the world. Within their halls aristocratic houses have ruled for generations, developing scientific marvels, fostering trade alliances, and building fleets of airships to keep the peace. Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship Predator. Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy's shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels.

I hate to say this, but...
Revisado: 03-04-19
For an excellent book series I was disappointed by the total conservatism of the authors portrayal of the Narthoni military leadership after the Battle of Moreland. They had technological advantage, had been wanting the fight, were adjusting in battle to the Islanders, and yet they did what they did without carrying the fight to the Islanders. They had tech superiority! Instead, the general was forgiven—any other nation would have sacked him—and they went defensive. Thus they gave up their sdvantage. They were so confident and “unbeatable” as the author portrayed it, then the author spun on a dime and made them meek. I love this series but I found that highly improble at the very least. It wasnt playsible and thus I was disappointed with this book—but only the mulitary parts. The rest of it was as excellent as the rest. The Narthoni were superior, had a superiority complex, had the experience to be superior, had tech superiority, held the initiative, had a long tem plan, and after one battle, even in the midt of that battle, turned 180degrees opposiye than the author had portrayed then. They had the Islanders quaking in their boots and gavi it all up. The whole upper Narthoni miliyary leadership didnt play like they had been previously portrayed. Soooo out of character.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Overly simplistic and implausible
Revisado: 05-05-18
I love alternate history but this book was so overly simplistic and shallow I kept setting the book aside. The what-if scenarios are not even believably and border on the implausible like some kid just offered a scenario on youtube without any evidence to back it up.
I gave it three tries, and had to just set it aside and delete. Sadly, its a horrible book....unless you like things very simplistic and don’t care about plausibility. Yukk.

You can’t put this book down!
Revisado: 05-05-18
A student of mine asked me if I played video games and liked the 80s pop culture. “Of course!” I said. “I grew up then.” He said, “Then you’ll LOVE Ready Player One. “. I gave it a whirl but was dubious of the reading by Wil Wheaton. I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! Rather, I was AMAZED. Wil Wheaton is a top dog reader. He went exceedingly beyond my expectations. His voice inflections, accents, and reading tone was absolutely off the charts and incredibly engaging. Put the with the content of the book, and you have one story you absolutely can’t put down!
So many references and in depth detail of the 80s pop culture, video game culture, favorite movies of the 80s and favorite games, leaves you laughing out loud, or nodding your head in agreement, or clapping your hands in recognition of all those memories you hand growing up during that time period. But, it is infused with current gaming lingo and experiences—all nonchalantly explained for the non gamer—such that I knew exactly the kinds of things he was talking about because I’d experienced them “in-game”.
Amazing stuff. You’ve gotta read this!! Highly recommend.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Revisado: 12-14-17
Never read a Stephen King book before because I don’t like horror but this book intrigued me when I saw it because it wasn’t. I am so glad I did!!! Mr King is an amazing writer with awesome character development and plot lines. I couldn’t put it down. And the reader in Audible phenomenally did Mr Kings work justice with very good voice differentials. Made it that much better. Mr Kings afterword, too, is the best ever and much appreciated. It was apropos and timely. Thank you Mr King for all the research you did for this book. You did the events of 11-22-63 justice.
