A rare gem
Revisado: 12-08-12
Where does The Secret Countess rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of my favourites due to Davina Porter's narration. A nice story which in essence is a light hearted romance piece that is a little cliched and predictable but made outstanding due to the narrators ability to bring the characters to life and give them depth. I read the book some time ago and found the writing style difficult to follow, Eva Ibbotson needs to cull her use of commas! Definitely recommend the audio version over the book and well worth the credit.

Easy Listen
Revisado: 05-08-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
If they were looking for something light and entertaining I would, it's an easy listen and entertaining.
Would you be willing to try another book from Nora Roberts? Why or why not?
I've read many from Nora Roberts and will read more in the future.
Did MacLeod Andrews do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I thought he did a good job, have no idea what all the complaints are about, he has a nice relaxed voice and does male characters especially well, not so great on female but not enought to distract you from the story.
Any additional comments?
Sometimes you just want something light and entertaining and this book is just that, the characters are likeable and the story flows well. No its not a literary masterpiece but a light romantic story that takes you away for a while.

Historia
A bewitching tale of heartbreak and hope set in 1920s Alaska. Jack and Mabel have staked everything on making a fresh start for themselves in a homestead 'at the world's edge' in the raw Alaska wilderness. But as the days grow shorter, Jack is losing his battle to clear the land, and Mabel can no longer contain her grief for the baby she lost many years before. The evening the first snow falls, their mood unaccountably changes.

Masterful
Revisado: 03-10-12
Where does The Snow Child rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
While a simple read this book has wonderful depths and leaves you thinking long after you finish it. Unforgetable.
What did you like best about this story?
The dance between reality and fantasy, it was masterfully written.
Which character – as performed by Debra Monk – was your favorite?
Mabel, a woman with inner beauty and torment much like the landscape she is trying to adapt to.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A journey of discovery and love.
Any additional comments?
Quite a slow book and at times seem longer than it needs to be but you will find yourself immersed in the story. Well worth listening and one of those rare stories that will stay with you forever. The raw setting is beautifully and poetically presented to the reader and you find yourself rising and falling with the tempo of emotions from dark and depressed to hopeful and elated. Some things are never revealed but you find yourself accepting that.

A great read
Revisado: 06-29-10
I disagree with the negative comment on the narration, I loved her voice. When she narrated the historical scenes involving Sophie I thought she had one of the best Scottish accents I've listened to; equally easy to listen to for men and women and when she used her own voice for Carrie I thought her timing and melody was mesmirizing. As far as the story it was a beautifully rendered tapestry of past and future where Carrie's memories pour into a lovely book. This could have been a unbelievable tale but instead was handled with ease and credibilty. The romances of both Sophie and Carrie were realistic and sweet, however this is no "bodice tearing" story, it is more a historical journey and its impact on the current day. A great read and well worth a listen.

A simple but lovely story made richer by the great skill of the narrators, particularly Toby Stephens who has a rich, fruity voice. I will definitely look for more audiobooks narrated by him.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-08-10
This sounded like the makings of a great story in the hype, inner battles, difficult choices etc etc. However, it read like a teenagers essay with little depth, character development and too many conveniences that made it unrealistic. The narrator was easy to listen to - no annoying qualities but did sound as if she was on a strict time limit to get the book finished. Conclusion; not the worst book, mildly entertaining but a bit of tease because it was just to shallow.

A MUST READ
Revisado: 09-08-09
This series, INTO THE WILDERNESS, DAWN ON A DISTANT SHORE and LAKE IN THE CLOUDS is one of those sagas you'll never forget. As memorable as Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series the books are well written with loveable characters that you miss when the story is over. Every woman will fall in love with Nathaniel and it's great to see a heroine with such strength of character. I will read these again soon and recommend to everyone I know. The narrator is one of the best I have ever listened to. The series continues so here is hoping there will be more installments soon!

Great Story
Revisado: 08-21-08
Really nice story with lots of great characters. Loved the two main characters and their tug of war into a relationship. Made me want to go to Ireland and live in a cottage by the sea. Highly recommend this for an easy story to help you escape reality.
