Historia
Shout It Out Loud is a serious examination of the circumstance and serendipity that fused the creation of the band's seminal work, Destroyer - including the band's arduous ascent to the unexpected smash hit Alive!, the ensuing lawsuits between its management and its label, the pursuit of the hot, young producer, a grueling musical "boot camp", the wildly creative studio abandon, the origins behind an iconic cover, the era's most outlandish tour, and the unlikely string of hit singles.

Great trip down my teenage memories!
Revisado: 08-30-21
I’m a music producer, and while I didn’t really appreciate the role of Bob as written in the production of destroyer when I was younger, today I realize what an amazing achievement this record was at the time. That, plus all the other drama around the beginnings of Kiss are all laid out in this book.
I feel the author does a very good job of bringing the reader to that time and place, filling in details that otherwise would have been lost in time. It was very obvious that the author not only knew his literary trade, but also had a deep emotional connection to the subject matter.
I think this book would be a welcome addition to any Kiss fans bookshelf, or playlist, as the case may be.

Historia
Meet Jim Carrey. Sure, he's an insanely successful and beloved movie star drowning in wealth and privilege — but he's also lonely. Maybe past his prime. Maybe even...getting fat? He's tried diets, gurus, and cuddling with his military-grade Israeli guard dogs, but nothing seems to lift the cloud of emptiness and ennui. Even the sage advice of his best friend, actor, and dinosaur skull collector Nicolas Cage isn't enough to pull Carrey out of his slump.

Revealing at times, at times holding back
Revisado: 07-08-20
Full disclosure - I am a big Jim Carrey fan - and because of that I went in thinking I would really enjoy the book, just because I am very interested in how Jim has navigated his career and life. I knew some of his views on life and success through some of the interviews and YouTube clips he has done. I kind of expected a wild ride in some ways (it IS Jim Carrey, after all) but what I didn't really expect is such introspection on the Hollywood machine and it's relation to capitalism, and how that also plays out in our world today in various ways. Without spoiling the fun, there's a lot there for those that wish to see.
Jeff Daniel's voice does a great job, although I would have loved it if Jim himself had read the audiobook. There were a couple of times where I felt the story dragged a bit, but overall it was a real "page turner" for me. Did Jim Carrey reveal all? No. Does it feel honest? Yes, I think so. Did I come away feeling like I understand the life of one of the most recognizable people on the planet? In some ways, yes, I definitely have a better understanding of some of the things that I think have dogged and challenged him in his personal journey. Some of his thoughts are in code, honestly. It's probably going to take a while to unpack it all. I will be reading it again.

Beautifully Read, Honest Account
Revisado: 10-25-19
Disclaimer - I’m a HUGE Elton fan, so I’m by no means objective - but this wonderful Audible book feels like a great story told over dinner or at a friends house. Taron did an incredible job with narrating, which is a different skill than just acting... so props to him! Elton, thank you. Thanks for sharing your story in detail with the world. I’ve always read the bits and pieces, but you putting it together like this is both interesting and enlightening to see. Through it all, you’ve managed to keep your spark and humanity, even while behaving badly. What really matters to you shines through, and that is a love for music and a love for close personal interrelationships that transcend.
