Historia
In the late summer and fall of 1777, after two years of indecisive fighting on both sides, the outcome of the American War of Independence hung in the balance. Having successfully expelled the Americans from Canada in 1776, the British were determined to end the rebellion the following year and devised what they believed a war-winning strategy, sending General John Burgoyne south to rout the Americans and take Albany.

Historia
In Thunder in the Argonne, Douglas V. Mastriano offers the most comprehensive account of this legendary campaign to date. Not only does he provide American, French, and British perspectives on the offensive, but he also offers - for the first time in English - the German view. Mastriano presents a balanced analysis of successes and failures at all levels of command, examining the leadership of the principals while also illuminating acts of heroism by individual soldiers.

The narrator makes this almost unlistenable.

Great story. Distracting narration.
Revisado: 06-24-22
The story of the largest American offensive is well written. It presents a balanced view and fairly points out the weaknesses in the American army as well as its strengths.
Here is the problem. The narrator made no effort to learn how to pronounce any of the names. That includes American names. It is terribly distracting.

Historia
World War I altered the landscape of the modern world in every conceivable arena. Millions died; empires collapsed; new ideologies and political movements arose; poison gas, warplanes, tanks, submarines, and other technologies appeared. "Total war" emerged as a grim, mature reality. In The Great War, Peter Hart provides a masterful combat history of this global conflict.

Historia
In the west end of London, an apparently crazed individual is on the loose, breaking into art galleries and private homes to slash valuable paintings of women. Despite Scotland Yard's best efforts, the criminal remains at large and continues on his destructive path. When Joanna and the Watsons are called in to solve the mystery, they soon discover that although the canvases have been slashed, their backings remain pristine, with no cuts or scratches. The criminal, it seems, is no mere vandal - he's searching for something hidden behind the portraits.

Pretty Good Tale
Revisado: 07-17-20
The dialog is a bit stilted. Everyone “elucidate.” But the galling bit is the authors lack of historical research. The story is set in 1916, but there is only passing reference to the war. King Edward is delighted with the results, but he died before the war began. We are told that a knight is a member of the House of Lords. The wife of an Earl is referred to with a courtesy title. It’s these little things that distract from the story.
