I have mixed feelings when it comes to dramatic elements - some narrators are effective, some should be fired. Stephen Lang is effective and did a great job. I could visualize the different characters and say "those are beliveable people." Unfortuneatly, the plot is predictable, the mechanics of the story are very well known and the book reads as a first foray into the genre for the author. By the end of chapter 2 you know the protagonist isn't Tierny - the only surprize is how clumsy Ms Brown set her stage with respect to snow and automobiles.

Not Faithless to the reader-listener

Sure, this is not a deep twisty 5-subplot story, but the storyline IS clear and moves along at more than a plodding pace. The narrator did a fine job of reading - more than a monotone, I'd say her voice is soothing. Careful if you are listening while in bed, or driving - you'll 'drop out' and miss something. I missed the importance of Sara and Jeffery I'm not sure what the story has to do with their relationship, and there is something at the end that I completely missed, but... I DID space out a few times while listening so put it down to that.

Marker was the first Robin Cook mystery I have listened to, or read. Basically a good story line, let down by being way too predictable. Too linear with very little twists, or side stories, which was welcomed after plowing through "No Second Chance" by Harlon Coban. The narrator was good enought I'd listen to another book he reads, but I will skip Robin Cook's next book. Seems more and more of his books are written to a formula ala Harlaquin Romance stories.

This was my wife's choice and I decided to give it a listen. The narator is perfect - her vocalization of each character produced images of real people. While the story line is too predictable, it brought a welcome change to a steady diet of murder, intrige and mayhem. Don't expect much substance, however overall this is a delightful story with characters who are totally beliveable. Well done to both author and narrator.

Wild INjustice

Total
1 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 08-02-05

Margret Whitton's narration of Wild Justice does an extreme injustice to the book. While her natural speaking voice is pleasant, when she attempts to mimic male voices, I get the image of someone who is tucking their chin in and taking a deep breath in order to achive a lower register with the voice. Which leaves the resulting audio rather uninteligible. I gave up after 40 mins of trying to listen and wish Margret had simply read in her normal voice. I give this a 1 star - not for the author or book, but for the narration.
