Fantastic
Revisado: 09-21-24
I've read a lot of books this year, but this series has risen to the top as one of my favorites. The third installment of this series, does not waver from the strength of the first two, but rather brings down the hammer down to nail it home.
Age of the end may be my favorite of the series. A Greco-Roman inspired fantasy doused in creativity, skillful writing, loads of action, and set alight with heart.
I enjoyed this series with my teenage sons (I recommend it for your older children due to descriptive violence). My sons and I had plenty of theories going into this book. Some were close, and some were dead wrong. However, Facciola wrapped this trilogy up, leaving us utterly satisfied with the outcome.
If you're looking for some gritty fantasy with light at the end of the day, check this one out. I highly recommend it.

Historia
Ten years ago, a new generation of children began to manifest abilities from the gods. Now, nearly half of the continent has chosen to graft the organs granting the abilities into adults. These gifted children are no longer the only ones with divine power. Phenmir will no longer participate, but can he repent his sin before all morality is lost? Meanwhile, Aerhee will give all to preserve the process of harvesting, silencing those who oppose her people. Will this land of peace resort to the barbaric practice of war?

Intriguingly Complex and Deep
Revisado: 09-21-24
Kaden Love has created a brilliant and complex web of culture and political intrigue layered with a fascinating magic system.
Political fantasy books have never been my go-to, but Elegy featured unique courts and magic systems that drives you forward, wondering what other mysteries and intricacies the world of Facet might hold.
The magic system--the basis for the main conflict and the rising civil war--is dependent on the harvesting of special organs from infants. These organs are transplanted into people the bureaucracy deems worthy. It's a gruesome and loathsome staple in their society, but some of the courts are tired of the horrid practice.
This is a multi-POV book, but one of the main characters, Phenmir, is a surgeon-turned-general who previously was forced to perform the procedures. Now, he rises up with a rebellion bent on ending the practice once and for all.
If you love political fantasy or intriguing magic systems, this is one you won't want to miss.

Historia
While Danella directs Damascus to finish the war her father started, Laeden frees gladiator slaves to raise an army against them. With New Rheynia burning, Vykinallia, a prisoner of the Uprising, attempts to prove herself more valuable than a king’s ransom. And Iylea, after skirting death to become a servant in the divine realm, learns of a treacherous plot amongst the Gods with Zephyrus at the center of it all. Now, with the aid of Iylea in the divine realm and Laeden in the mortal, Zephyrus must claim the lost relics of long dead Gods if he has any chance of facing the Traitor God.

Great!
Revisado: 07-22-24
This trilogy gets better and better. I loved that we got to see the Zeph and Threyna team up!
In this book, we get more worldbuilding, seeing the realm of the gods and what they’re up to through the eyes of a familiar character.
Danella, arguably one of the most interesting characters in the first book, sort of takes a little backseat to Zeph and Threyna and Laeden and Nallia. The pairs really seeing a lot of growth in this book as we (the readers) try to figure out who embodies the different prophets. I’m assuming we’ll learn that in the final book as the intrigue comes to a head. My teen boys and I have some theories.
This was an enjoyable read with wild political machinations and frustrating battles and loss. So many people die, you’ll be gutted.
Really looking forward to the final book in the trilogy.

Fantastic
Revisado: 06-09-24
This book was an absolute blast. Classic style fantasy at its best. If you love the hero’s journey, this hits the mark.
Holt and Ash make up one of the coolest dynamic duos in fantasy right now! Holt is a cook’s son. Ash is a blind dragon. But their bond is more than meets the eye.
Whisk away to Feorlen to fight the dreaded scourge and save the people as a rogue dragon rider!
The kids and I enjoyed this one thoroughly! Can’t recommend it highly enough!

Peace bought by blood seldom lasts, for vengeance knows no end. The same is true for mortals and gods alike. Decades, centuries, and even eras may pass, but the cycle remains. As war and revolution rise again, Zephyrus finds himself at the center of it all. Chosen by the gods, hailed as a prophet of liberation, and forged as a weapon to break the kingdom and restore balance to the realm, hope rests squarely on his shoulders.
