Historia
We've all had experiences with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always need to be the smartest people in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them.

guide for teachers of 8-year-old college students
Revisado: 07-16-19
I was ready to abandon this audiobook after hearing the first part. Fortunately I didn't, because it gets better after that.
Still the amount of cringe-worthy juvenile puerile material leaves me shaking my head even after I am finished.
There is some good material to recommend it: the description of Socratic method as applied to a classroom; recommendation for designing a course; ideas for illustrating material - are all valuable.
the narrator conveys much of the energy described in the book as being necessary for effective engagement effectively engaging these students. But again, much of that energy are is simply childish.
Also his repeated self-congratulatory quotations of students' evaluations of the course is off-putting.

Very stirring without mushiness
Revisado: 02-28-16
Author / Narrator came across as very authentic. 2 moments that stand out: when the homeless man related that the method had his fellow- homeless asking him for money because he so didn't have the hopeless air of a homeless. and when the horse -trainer found the method transforming the race horse's performance - that remove any vestige of doubt that it might all be autosuggestion : one can't psycho babble one's way into a horse' s head

Historia
Your graduate work was on bacterial evolution, but now you're lecturing to 200 freshmen on primate social life. You've taught Kant for twenty years, but now you're team-teaching a new course on "Ethics and the Internet". The personality theorist retired and wasn't replaced, so now you, the neuroscientist, have to teach the "Sexual Identity" course. Everyone in academia knows it and no one likes to admit it: faculty often have to teach courses in areas they don't know very well.

Good useful info. but repetetive and poorly organised. Much of the guidance applies equally to lecturers teaching within their fields. A good edit would turn this into 2 books: A short one dealing with the title and a longer once with best lecture and prep practices.
