Historia
When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers detective agency, hoping for help locating her missing daughter, Holly Gibney is reluctant to accept the case. Her partner, Pete, has Covid. Her (very complicated) mother has just passed away. And Holly is meant to be on leave. But something in Penny’s desperate voice makes it impossible to turn her down. Meanwhile, mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. But they are also harboring a shocking, unholy secret.

I missed Will P as Holly, but…
Revisado: 09-24-23
Holly was good solid SK story. And a mirror, if you liked the polarizing non-fiction that helped tell the story, of what we all went through, the sickness and the madness of 2020-2021. And if you didn’t like what you saw in the mirror (not the fictional villains, unless you identify with them as well?) then, stop listening.
Put the book down and go find something less compelling, deliciously creepy that also happens to be laced with hard truths. Don’t get mad about it. Just go reread the SK classics, get your mind off it. Open up the Stand or The Talisman and totally forget you gave this one a go. This is a time capsule and a really good tale.
And the narrator who was not Will P finally won me over, right around chapter 2.

Historia
To uncover the fate of the thousands being interred at a mysterious Nazi camp on the border of the Reich, a young Polish resistance fighter named Witold Pilecki volunteered for an audacious mission: intentionally get captured and transported to the new camp to report back on what was going on there. But gathering information was not his only task: he was to execute an attack from inside - where the Germans would least expect it. The name of the camp was Auschwitz.

...uncomplicated, uncompromising w/a brilliant narrator.
Revisado: 01-16-21
...if this is your genre, read it. no melodrama, no overly articulated foreign accents that distract from the true accounts and author’s extremely well-culled research, which by all literary standards, is incredibly done. and horrifying. and entirely heroic. worth nine hours of your time. if this is your genre.

Historia
It is 1943 - the height of the Second World War. With the men taken by the army, Berlin has become a city of women. And while her husband fights on the Eastern Front, Sigrid Schröder is, for all intents and purposes, the model soldier's wife: She goes to work every day, does as much with her rations as she can, and dutifully cares for her meddling mother-in-law, all the while ignoring the horrific immoralities of the regime. But behind this façade is an entirely different Sigrid, a woman who dreams of her former Jewish lover.

A clunky, cardboard cutout mess.
Revisado: 04-16-16
And it's been done (so many many times over) better. This is a hackneyed cobbling of every tv holocaust docudrama, melodrama you have never seen. I feel bad for narrator, Fred Berman. He's a funny and talented narrator. But in this story? His gifts are wasted.
Listen to THE INVISIBLE BRIDGE. SARAH'S KEY, THE BOOK THIEF instead.

one of audibles BEST narrators!

Arthur Morey makes this a great listen. And there's a nice switch up @ the end. A lovely memoir to the author's parents.

Historia
Bringing the magic and suspense of the All Souls Trilogy to a deeply satisfying conclusion, this highly anticipated finale went straight to number one on the New York Times best seller list. In The Book of Life, Diana and Matthew time-travel back from Elizabethan London to make a dramatic return to the present - facing new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home, Sept-Tours, they reunite with the beloved cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches - with one significant exception.

Had to stop listening and go get the book. :-(
Revisado: 07-15-14
Any additional comments?
How Jennifer Ikeda could have forgotten how she did GALLOWGLASS from SHADOW OF NIGHT is a terrible distraction from the start. She interchanges GALLOWGLASS and HAMISH and it is already so confusing to figure out just who is talking that i need to stop listening and go get the book. 2 very DIFFERENT and excellent voices that she created, beautifully, are being squashed together at a time when so much is happening but it's so distracting that it's near impossible to pay attention. Be forewarned...if you LOVE this series and LOVE how Ikeda created these amazing characters, this WILL trip you up in the first 10 minutes of reading. I'll read the book first this time...the audio can wait.
