Historia
Separated for decades by circumstance and political machinations, the Ruby Dynasty, hereditary rulers of the Skolian Empire, struggle to bring together the tattered remnants of their family in the shadow of a disastrous interstellar war. Too many have died, others are presumed lost. Yet they must move quickly if they are to resume their rightful place as rulers of Skolia.

Terrible narrator almost ruined the story
Revisado: 06-27-22
I am listening to this entire series. A new narrator was used for this book. She sounded like a 12-year-old reading a book report. She gave battle-hardened female characters baby voices. She also made no effort whatsoever to find out how things had been pronounced in previous books. Sometimes a character's name was so changed it took a while to figure out who was even being discussed. If I had not really wanted to know what happened in this book I would not have been able to stick with the series. The narration was so jarring that I really can't make a judgment on the quality of the storyline itself. I was constantly jarred out of the spell. I don't think she narrated any further books in this series; I checked the next two. I know this is a very harsh review but it is true. Hopefully the narrator grew up and honed her skill. But it did not happen in this book, to the severe detriment of this performance.

If the past is prologue - what if the prologue never happened? When a team of scientists attempts to rewrite history, the story of the present turns out to have an ending they didn’t see coming. Over and over.

Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Historia
That's the question that has haunted 14-year-old Ezekiel Blast all his life. But he's not a thief, he just has a talent for finding things. Not a superpower - a micropower. Because what good is finding lost bicycles and hair scrunchies, especially when you return them to their owners and everyone thinks you must have stolen them in the first place? If only there were some way to use Ezekiel's micropower for good, to turn a curse into a blessing. His friend Beth thinks there must be, and so does a police detective investigating the disappearance of a little girl.

Historia
Space is a world devoid of the things we need to live and thrive: air, gravity, hot showers, fresh produce, privacy, beer. Space exploration is in some ways an exploration of what it means to be human. How much can a person give up? How much weirdness can they take? What happens to you when you can’t walk for a year? Have sex? Smell flowers? What happens if you vomit in your helmet during a space walk? Is it possible for the human body to survive a bailout at 17,000 miles per hour?

great research yet still hilarious
Revisado: 05-06-21
All of Mary Roach's books are funny and well researched. This one is a little heavier on the research than the humor but still great. I laughed out loud while listening to it and learned a lot. Also Sandra Burr is a wonderful narrator and fits Mary Roach's books perfectly.

Historia
The study of sexual physiology has been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinsey's attic.
Mary Roach, "The funniest science writer in the country", devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.

I can count on Mary Roach
Revisado: 04-17-21
All of Mary Roach's books are full of facts and are so very witty. I love her one-liner humor in all her work but this book is the pinnacle. I have listened to it twice now and probably will do so again in a few years when I have forgotten the great one-liners, the buildup to hilarity. It makes me laugh out loud every time. Her irreverent approach is always welcome. Her humor and facts always slice straight to the point. I can't get enough of it and hope there's more to come.
