An enjoyable listen, with a good ending. Not startling, but not that awkward/uncertain kind that ruins a solid book. I'll keep enjoying this author. He definitely knows his art. (pun intended)

Underachieving gen z meets demonic spiritualism...
Revisado: 09-12-24
Searching to explain generational failures beyond personal responsibility. Oh, and the characters are beyond beautiful/intelligent/selfless/blah blah blah. Throw a thick layer of woke'ism' over everything and that's it. Content was grinding slow. Narration emphasized it.
The dog seemed real, so 1 star is appropriate. Next.

Historia
It’s not every day that you’re summoned to the Italian countryside on business, so when archaeologist Angelo Morelli asks for Ruth Galloway’s help identifying bones found in the tiny hilltop town of Fontana Liri, she jumps at the chance to go, bringing her daughter along with her for a working vacation. Upon arriving, she begins to hear murmurs of Fontana Liri’s strong resistance movement during World War II and senses the townspeople are dancing around a deeply buried secret. But how could that be connected to the ancient remains she’s been studying?

Too bad the Anti Catholic rhetoric is so pervasive.
Revisado: 08-29-24
This could have been a good book. The intolerance exhibited by Ruth goes author deep. Why go to Italy and witch about the predominant religion? And why toss a fit when asked to dress appropriately, then insist on going inside a religious place? I guess I'm not surprised Ruth is written as a home wrecking tramp. "No don't say it", then she gets in bed easily enough. Social justice cloaks a lack of a moral compas? So it would seem hypocrisy abounds.

Jake Mishkin's seemingly innocent job as an intellectual property lawyer has put him at the center of a deadly conspiracy and a chase to find a priceless treasure involving William Shakespeare. As he awaits a killer (or killers) unknown, Jake writes an account of the events that led to this deadly endgame, a frantic chase that began when a fire in an antiquarian bookstore revealed the hiding place of letters containing a shocking secret, concealed for 400 years.

You'll thank God you didn't waste 4 hours finding out its about the world trying to kill you every moment of your life because you're black. And it's heretical, but even that takes a back seat. Absolutely racist garbage. Certainly not written by any kind of Christian who knew anything about the Bible.
It's too bad this wasn't about self genocide. Look at chiraq the last 3 weekends. 90 shootings.

Historia
The year is 1348. Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysm - that the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict. Is it delirium or is it faith? She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon.

someone said this was brutal, they're correct.
Revisado: 06-11-24
It's wonderfully written and the narration is phenomenal, that said.....
it has so very many gd in the narrative, it was jarring. 5 starts without it, but alas it's offensive in that one thing.
is there a version without it? Yes, I understand the significance of it all in the ending. just wish it wasn't there.
The author's talent is blatant and fixed.
