Interesting
Revisado: 01-12-24
When I listened to the sample, I wasn’t sure about buying this title. Hadn’t heard Penelope Keith’s voice for years and wasn’t sure if it was the right one for this book.
Having purchased and listened to it, however, I’ve changed my mind and she is well suited to the role (as explained in the opening “memo”).
Did get a few chuckles out of it, especially having read the series several times over the years, thereby being able to recognise places and people mentioned. (At the moment, I can’t remember why Rincewind was in the Everglades. Must be time for another reread of the series.)
Did get a tad tedious towards the end when it seemed to be mainly a travelogue of accommodation, post offices, and pubs with not so many anecdotes.

I’ve never heard of this author before, but I’m going to look out for more books from her. I’m pleased she read it herself. Anna Lind Thomas had some points that I found pertinent to things I’m mulling over atm. I like her down-to-earth view of life. Must check out her blog/Facebook page as well.

I enjoyed reading this as a book from the school library I’ve worked in for over 30 years and am now enjoying this Audible version. Anton Lesser’s voice is just right for it.

Frustrated
Revisado: 02-24-21
It is very frustrating when I try to replay episode one to have this download constantly go to episode two and when I try to stop that have it jump to episode three. Very, very annoying.

Historia
The villagers of Thrush Green celebrate Christmas traditionally, in a way that has hardly changed over the generations. Children eagerly hang up their stockings, families go to church together and everyone enjoys the treats of the festive season. And when it snows as the carol singers make their way round the cottages on the green, it looks as if Christmas will be perfect this year. But not everything is as peaceful as it seems.

Once again it is sad to come to the end of this gentle, entertaining series. I don’t know how many times I’ve read the books and listened to these audiobooks. I will certainly be listening to them again and again.

Historia
On a dark night, along a lonely country road, barrister Frank Amberley stops to help a young lady in distress and discovers a sports car with a corpse behind the wheel. The girl protests her innocence, and Amberley believes her – at least until he gets drawn into the mystery and the clues incriminating Shirley Brown begin to add up. In an English country-house murder mystery with a twist, it's the butler who's the victim, every clue complicates the puzzle, and the bumbling police are well-meaning but completely baffled.

Disappointing reading
Revisado: 06-08-18
I enjoy reading Georgette Heyer’s murder mysteries. I also enjoy listening to audio books when they are well read and I can lose myself in the story.
This one, however, was not. A very stilted and precise reading with every syllable and consonant emphasised equally. No emotion, no distinguishing of who is talking by using different inflections, accents or tones of voice.
This lady might as well be reading out a grocery list for all the interest she had in the story.
I will be making a note of her name and avoiding any audio books she has narrated in future.
I’m hoping I can find other GH murder mystery titles read by different narrators with more expressive voices.

Historia
It should have been a lovely English country-house weekend. But the unfortunate guest list is enough to exasperate a saint, and the host, Sir Arthur Billington-Smith, is an abusive wretch hated by everyone – from his disinherited son to his wife's stoic would-be lover. When Sir Arthur is found stabbed to death, no one is particularly grieved and no one has an alibi. The unhappy guests find themselves under the scrutiny of Scotland Yard's cool-headed Inspector Harding, who has solved tough cases before.

Enjoyed the story but not the performance
Revisado: 03-04-18
I’ve read a few of Georgette Heyer’s murder mysteries in book form. This is the first audio I’ve listened to. I found the reader very wooden and stilted in her reading, making most of the characters sound jerky and half-witted. Would not want to purchase anything else by this reader.

The Last Continent
Revisado: 12-09-15
I enjoy Terry Pratchett's Discworld series very much. That said, in parts I find this book drags a bit, as if there is too much in it.
However, I will read/listen to it again sometime. This is about the 4th time I've either listened to or read this book.

The town of Ankh-Morpork is in big trouble and the City Watch is desperate for a few good men to protect it. But all they've got are the dwarves Corporal Carrot and Lance-constable Cuddy, the troll Lance-constable Detritus, Lance-constable Angua, who is believed to be a woman and, worst of all, Corporal Nobbs, who has been disqualified from the human race for shoving! These underdogs need all the help they can get, for they've been given only 24 hours to clean up the war-torn town.

I've stayed up way too late to hear the end of this story. Another excellent Terry Pratchett Discworld novel. I couldn't believe it when the main female character was shot 5 times at point blank range. I'd forgotten that fact from mythology.
A good read.
