Some people would call this an instant classic, I would call it a gem because it manages to explain one of the most recondite and unique teachings in Buddhist thought and practice in a relatively short and dense form. I am beginning my second of no doubt many listenings to this work feeling deep gratitude that it is available. For maximum benefit, I would recommend that one get the book or pdf of this book as an aid to deeper understanding.

The classic epics tell of figures much larger than life. The Raj Quartet is an epic for our times laying out the complex web of relationships and personalities which constitute the skein of history in its windings and unwindings, played out by ordinary people. The great unwinding is the demise of the British empire’s crown jewel which Paul Scott dissects with surgical skill from the point of view of these ordinary people. Scott has an uncanny ability to run together different people’s perspectives, weaving them together as a single narrative. This series and this book are a narrative tour de force.

Traditional Buddhist Practice as a Guideline for today’s world

I have practiced Buddhist Dharma for over 50 years and have an M.A.in Buddhist Studies, and I have to say that this is one of the two best works I’ve found on integrating Buddhist practice into daily life in the modern world. The other is B. Allen Wallace’s “Buddhism with an Attitude “ (AKA “The Art of Transforming the Mind”).
The great strength of “Lojong” is that Traleg Kyabgon distills the essence of a classic Buddhist practice text and presents it in a manner that sounds like what the original authors/ practitioners would say if they lived today. I believe that this is the highest praise that one can give to a book on a traditional practice . I further believe that anyone, Buddhist or not, who gives this book serious attention will come away a better person for their efforts.
