Historia
On January 14, 2015, Tommy Caldwell, along with his partner, Kevin Jorgeson, summited what is widely regarded as the hardest climb in history - Yosemite’s nearly vertical 3,000-foot Dawn Wall, after 19 days on the route. This engrossing memoir chronicles the journey of a boy with a fanatical mountain-guide father who was determined to instill toughness in his son to a teen whose obsessive nature drove him to the top of the sport-climbing circuit.

You are a true inspiration and a role model. There is much in this book that must have been difficult to write; and yet that is exactly what makes the story so inspiring. Its not the elevation, but the vertical feet gained. Others will follow your route, but few could share your vision.

Informative and entertaining
Revisado: 09-16-16
This is probably more of a Laymans guide to neuroscience, I found it difficult not to agree with Mr. Medina's perspective. With references, concrete examples, and a healthy dose of skepticism this course takes you on an overview tour of what we know about the human brain from an evolutionary perspective.

Historia
A behind-the-scenes look at the robustly competitive race to dominate the market for electric cars, the larger-than-life moguls behind them, and the changes that are transforming the auto industry. In the 1980s, it was unimaginable that the home computer would become as common and easy to use as a toaster. Today, plug-in charging stations and smart grids seem like something still far off in the future. But by 2020, the auto industry will look very different from today's field of troubled auto giants.

If you are new to the subject then there is probably a lot of good information in here for you. If not, find a newer book. Electric car market is changing rapidly and much of this book is old news now.

This course chronicles the history of Earth and life on Earth from the point of view of the minerals that made it all happen. A major theme is how minerals and life coevolved, leading to the unprecedented mineral diversity on our world compared to the other planets in the solar system. Professor Hazen tells this epic story in 48 action-packed lectures that take you from the big bang to the formation of the solar system to the major milestones that marked the evolution of Earth and life.

An earth science perspective on origins of life
Revisado: 04-12-16
I found the perspective of this book, namely the coevolution of rocks and life, to be a very fascinating and enlightening view on the origin of life. Many things that I have understood a long time from a purely biological perspective take on new insight from this view. Though I found the material a little difficult to follow in the beginning, it eventually comes into focus and coalesces into holistic and visionary new way to see the world. Although I don't quite share Dr Hazen's optimism in navigating our self imposed climate crisis, It is admirable that he manages to fit it nicely into his historical narrative without trivializing. I feel that I have gained a newly expanded view of an extremely expansive subject and I find it awe inspiring.

I was very intrigued by this book but I feel kind of let down by the rather abrupt inconclusive ending. Maybe in ten or fifteen years we can get the sequel.

I was hoping for more science
Revisado: 06-19-15
Mostly an account of people whose livelihood is based on the management of corrosion problems and an historical account of stainless steel. Since I have a job that leans me in this direction as well I was hoping for some insight. But aside from a new fear of beverage cans I can't say I learned too much. I'm still waiting to hear a good rust joke.

Historia
People need to know the traits of a sociopath, especially parents. Parents invest their time and money into their children, but if they do not inform them of the traits of a sociopath, their children may be derailed by falling in love with one or by having sociopathic teachers, friends and/or bosses destroy them emotionally, financially, or physically.

In Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath reveal the anatomy of ideas that stick and explain ways to make ideas stickier, such as applying the human scale principle, using the Velcro Theory of Memory, and creating curiosity gaps. Along the way, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds—from the infamous “kidney theft ring” hoax to a coach’s lessons on sportsmanship to a vision for a new product at Sony—draw their power from the same six traits.

Historia
We human beings share 98 percent of our genes with chimpanzees. Yet humans are the dominant species on the planet - having founded civilizations and religions, developed intricate and diverse forms of communication, learned science, built cities, and created breathtaking works of art - while chimps remain animals concerned primarily with the basic necessities of survival. What is it about that two percent difference in DNA that has created such a divergence between evolutionary cousins?

This book is the compelling story of the rise and possible fall of humanity. Well thought out and articulately written, this. Book brings together many facts from a surprising diversity of disciplines to bare the the side of human progress that we would rather not see.
