Historia
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

The Point in Beneficial But Can Be a Bit Dry
Revisado: 08-07-20
The point of this book is very important and I think a lot of people should take into consideration what Mr. Epstein is saying. There are times where the book is a bit slow/dry and I wished I had the hard copy so I could skip some of those sections but overall I am happy with this read.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

I enjoy Malcolm Gladwell's work, both written and via podcast. This book doesn't disappoint. It shines a light on issues we deal with on a daily basis, but the light is shown from a different angle... allowing us a different perspective than what might come naturally. Highly recommend.

Listened With My 9 Year Old Son!
Revisado: 01-29-19
This book changed our life. My son and I heard Alex (author) in a podcast and decided to get the book. We read it together and my son has decided this is his favorite book of all time (he's a big reader). We got there book to hear more interesting stories like how Steven Spielberg got his first big break. But that ended up being the best thing about this book was Alex's personal experiences and the resulting growth from embarking on his "mission". We're so glad he stuck to it. I recommend it for all ages because it's written on language simple enough for most to understand. FYI, there are some "bad" words, but nothing that isn't in all the comic book movies that are out now... And this is much more educational.

Historia
It was Adam Smith (1723 - 1790) who first established economics as a separate branch of knowledge, and many would say his work has never been surpassed. The Wealth of Nations, which appeared in 1776, is the definitive text for all who believe that economic decisions are best left to markets, not governments. At the heart of Smith’s doctrine is an optimistic view of the effects of self-interest.

This is not the entire Wealth of Nations so it was disappointing when several chapters were missing, especially at the end.

Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder".

Historia
John Taylor Gatto's Weapons of Mass Instruction focuses on mechanisms of traditional education which cripple imagination, discourage critical thinking, and create a false view of learning as a byproduct of rote-memorization drills. Gatto's earlier book, Dumbing Us Down, introduced the now-famous expression of the title into the common vernacular. Weapons of Mass Instruction adds another chilling metaphor to the brief against conventional schooling.

Historia
Emmy Award-winning news anchor and New York Times best-selling author Chris Hayes argues that there are really two Americas: a Colony and a Nation. America likes to tell itself that it inhabits a postracial world, but nearly every empirical measure - wealth, unemployment, incarceration, school segregation - reveals that racial inequality hasn't improved since 1968.
