Unable to compete... such poor narration
Revisado: 04-14-23
Have listened to over 30 Sandford titles with much pleasure.
With this latest book could not follow the narration....constantly had to go back to try and figure what was going on.
Gave up about half way through.

Historia
So begins a press release from a mysterious group known only as “The Five,” shortly after a vicious predator is murdered in San Francisco. The Five is made up of vigilante killers who are very bored…and very rich. They target the worst of society—rapists, murderers, and thieves—and then use their unlimited resources to offset the damage done by those who they’ve killed, donating untraceable Bitcoin to charities and victims via the dark net. The Five soon become popular figures in the media …though their motives may not be entirely pure.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-05-22
Always look forward to a Flowers or Davenport book. However found this one disappointing, containing both protagonists.
Much of my enjoyment has come from the crackling dialogue filled with wit and humor. Which for me is what elevates Sandford above the rest. This one has !little of that. Just seemed flat.
The narration seemed off also...probably because the dialogue was sub par. I find it jarring not to hear Flowers voice as performed by Eric Conger.
There were times it felt to me like someone else penned the dialogue.

Historia
The daughter of a US Senator is monitoring her social media presence when she finds a picture of herself on a strange blog. And there are other pictures...of the children of other influential Washington politicians, walking or standing outside their schools, each identified by name. Surrounding the photos are texts of vicious political rants from a motley variety of radical groups. It's obviously alarming - is there an unstable extremist tracking the loved ones of powerful politicians with deadly intent? But when the FBI is called in, there isn't much the feds can do.

Historia
Glacier National Park police officer Monty Harris knows that each summer at least one person - be it a reckless, arrogant climber or a distracted hiker - will meet tragedy in the park. But Paul "Wolfie" Sedgewick's fatal fall from the sheer cliffs near Going-to-the-Sun Road is incomprehensible. Wolfie was an experienced and highly regarded wildlife biologist who knew all too well the perils that Glacier's treacherous terrain presents - and how to avoid them.

Unpleasant disappointing sequel
Revisado: 11-18-20
I enjoyed the first title in the series so I tried the second... Won't try the third.
I found the whole production unappealing. Thought the storyline was a thinly veiled rerun of plot device of the first. Found none of the characters appealing or even interesting. The lead character's internal dialogue was whiny repetitive and boring. Thought the handling of that character's mothers mental illness to be insensitive ...seemed the character thought it was a character flaw in her that made him miserable..no thought of the agony she suffered.
Performance was ok if dull.
Very dark story populated by people not worthy of interest.

The newspaper refers to the body only as Victim 2117 - the 2117th refugee to die in the Mediterranean Sea. But to three people, the unnamed victim is so much more, and the death sets off a chain of events that throws Department Q, Copenhagen’s cold cases division led by Detective Carl Mørck, into a deeply dangerous - and deeply personal - case. A case that not only reveals dark secrets about the past, but has deadly implications for the future.

Far grimmer than other series books
Revisado: 03-13-20
Hi..
I enjoy the somewhat odd humor of the other books, none to be found here.
Because of storyline none would be expected. I found about the first 1/3 of book to be rather slow and confusing ...maybe it's me that's slow and confusing. I did find after that the pieces fell into place and was eager to keep listening as the plot steamrolled forward.
I really like this series and think the narration is superb. The only reason I give it 4 stars not 5 is as I mentioned the storyline is very intense and I missed the usual banter between characters.

Historia
At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of science and medicine. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right? Then a renowned and confrontational scholar winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate...and as he probes the recent ideological unrest, he soon comes to realize he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy.

Disappointing addition to a great series
Revisado: 10-05-19
Found the plot uninteresting with unmemorable characters. While book just felt flat to me...whereas previous Flowers books I have enjoyed immensely.
For me it lacked the underlying wit and repartee between Flowers and those around him. This book reminded me of seeing a concert with a performer that usually highly entertains but puts on only a pedestrian performance.

Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever. Joyland is a brand-new novel and has never previously been published.

Charming ,unusual Stephen King story
Revisado: 08-01-19
Very poignant, sweet story. It is also a coming of age story of a 21 year old guy in the early 1970s. Those waiting for the usual Stephen King touches of horror will perhaps be disappointed ,though there is a foray into the supernatural. Of all King books ,this character driven one reminds me of Shawshank Redemption. In all literature i have read ,2 short stories by Truman Capote come to mind... "A Thanksgiving Visitor" and "A Christmas Memory."
The narration was superb keeping with the tone of the book.

Great narration,interesting topic
Revisado: 07-26-19
Found this book after watching Money under on Netflix.
First, the psych traits common with the serial killer fraternity hold the most interest for me. The actual horrors i rarely remember....think I go kind of blank when they are elucidated...then tune back in.
The hardest part for me to push through is the enormous ego on display by Douglas. Occurs to me he has this in common with his subjects ....
For me what really made the book was the narration by Jonathon Groff who portrays Holden on the show. His quiet soft voice can impart a range of meanings by his inflections on just a syllable of a word, like his brief glances visually do on the show. Certainly an excellent selection as performer...couldn't bear to listen to one who unloaded angst and histrionics at every turn.

Historia
On Christmas Eve, 1818, in a small Austrian village, a local Catholic priest and a church organist composed a Christmas carol that changed the course of holiday music forever. Exactly two hundred years later, it’s not the holiday season until you’ve heard “Silent Night” in the car, at the store and on TV – all in the same day.
In Jingle Bell Pop, John Seabrook, acclaimed author of The Song Machine, takes us deep inside the holiday music business. We go behind the scenes to meet some of the producers, songwriters and recording artists responsible for the timeless tunes we hear on repeat between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year.

Ok....but too wordy
Revisado: 12-12-18
There was some interesting facts and material here. Unfortunately a few long interview excerpts of songwriters weighed down my enjoyment.
Would have enjoyed more actual performances...even in 30 second segments by Nat King Cole ....etc...rather then analysis of reasons certain songs have become timeless. None of the interviews were as interesting to me as just the genesis of Silent Night....or White Christmas.
