Historia
A genre-defining novel and De Robertis's masterpiece, Cantoras is a breathtaking portrait of queer love, community, forgotten history, and the strength of the human spirit. At once timeless and groundbreaking, Cantoras is a tale about the fire in all our souls and those who make it burn.

Relatable
Revisado: 04-09-20
If you read the synopsis of this book, you wouldn't think it, but it's incredibly relatable. It is a LGBTQ+ book set in politically charged 1970's South America and is an all female lead. You might ask, how is that relatable? Well, it's a story about being accepted as yourself and finding a place that you can be that version of you. I think we've all struggled with that regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity and political associations. Also, it helps that it was beautifully written. Enjoy!

Historia
Greg Donahue’s The Minuteman, tells the story of one of Newark’s native sons; ex-prizefighter and longtime Zwillman enforcer Sidney Abramowitz, a.k.a. Nat Arno, who took over leadership of the Minutemen in 1934 and made it his personal business to put an end to what he saw as the Bund’s “anti-American” activities. For six years, Arno and his crew of vigilantes battled Newark’s Nazis at every turn. The Minuteman is a story of the ethics of violence in the face of fascism; a forgotten legacy that is as relevant now as it was nearly a hundred years ago.

Very investigative
Revisado: 04-07-20
In general, I'm a fan of Audible Originals that feel more like investigative journalism pieces than dramatization. This one is really solid and enjoyable.

Love the idea of self compassion and was expecting this to be more of a journalistic style course on the importance and research of self care, instead if felt like the worse therapy session ever.

Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

No Need to be a Nerd
Revisado: 04-06-20
Really enjoyed this and I wouldn't say that i'm a SciFi Nerd at all. A lot of the shows/films discussed I hadn't seen, but I was obsessed with the explanations behind everything. Recommended for those who like podcasts.

Not sure what I'm missing?
Revisado: 04-06-20
This book was fine. Probably more of 2.5 starts, but I'm not understanding the overall rating of 4. It's a very relatable story especially if you cam from a family with high expectations, but that's kind of it.

Why aren't there more Dr. House's in the world
Revisado: 03-23-20
Really enjoyed this book because it's incredible related and a nonfiction mystery. We've all had medical issues that have left us frustrated or seeking second opinions, so this book feels so real and incredible related despite none of us having this very rare diagnosis.

Historia
Eleven-year-old George Washington Black—or Wash—a field slave on a Barbados sugar plantation, is initially terrified when he is chosen as the manservant of his master’s brother. To his surprise, however, the eccentric Christopher Wilde turns out to be a naturalist, explorer, inventor, and abolitionist. Soon Wash is initiated into a world where a flying machine can carry a man across the sky, where even a boy born in chains may embrace a life of dignity and meaning, and where two people, separated by an impossible divide, can begin to see each other as human.

Dull

This one was pretty hard to get into and I hate to be so negative because there are pieces of the story that had a lot of potential, but overall dull.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Very Current
Revisado: 01-23-20
Very current! Felt very “Serial” or “Making a Murder,” but from the perspective of the family of the victim so you can see the stress and trauma that a podcast re-examine a closed case can cause. Looking forward to watching the Apple TV+ series.
