Historia
Not content with investing his fortune and watching it grow, multibillionaire Howard Christian buys rare cars that he actually drives, acquires collectible toys that he actually plays with, and builds buildings that defy the imagination. But now his restless mind has turned to a new obsession: cloning a mammoth. In a barren province of Canada, a mammoth hunter financed by Christian has made the discovery of a lifetime: an intact frozen woolly mammoth. But what he finds during the painstaking process of excavating the huge creature baffles the mind.

Completely Bonkers and Wildly Entertaining
Revisado: 01-28-25
This is one of those books that lives or dies on its author's commitment to the entirety of the storyline, the in-world authenticity, the respect for the characters and their actions. This book delivers it all with gusto, never making light or fun of the story nor of any reader who decides to go along for the ride. And the story is a terrific ride, with a fully realized cast of characters who find themselves in the adventure of an entire epoch. Super enjoyable, holds up entirely to multiple listens...

Grabbed Me by the Throat!
Revisado: 01-24-25
This story had all the Jonathan Maberry hallmarks that brought me to his Joe Ledger series originally: character development, humor, strong story elements, and plenty of gory details. Despite being less than 2 hours long, it was completely immersive and totally enjoyable.

Completely Captivating
Revisado: 08-26-24
Although this is one of Ms Hilderbrand's earlier novels, it's been nearly last on my list, thinking that the primary story would be derivative and too "historical fiction" for my tastes. It's wonderful to be so wrong!
This story is quite different from everything I expected. There are fewer characters overall; the dual readers are very expressive, with each narrator fully inhabiting the sorrow and happiness of each woman they represent; and the story itself was realistic: fraught and tense in a way the more contemporary stories seem to have reduced.

Historia
Norman Mailer's Pulitzer Prize-winning and unforgettable classic about convicted killer Gary Gilmore now in audio. Arguably the greatest book from America's most heroically ambitious writer, The Executioner's Song follows the short, blighted life of Gary Gilmore who became famous after he robbed two men in 1976 and killed them in cold blood. After being tried and convicted, he immediately insisted on being executed for his crime. To do so, he fought a system that seemed intent on keeping him alive long after it had sentenced him to death.

Historia
When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Fred Kaplan, hailed by The New York Times as “a rare combination of defense intellectual and pugnacious reporter,” takes us into the White House Situation Room, the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s “Tank” in the Pentagon, and the vast chambers of Strategic Command to bring us the untold stories - based on exclusive interviews and previously classified documents - of how America’s presidents and generals have thought about, threatened, broached, and just barely avoided nuclear war from the dawn of the atomic age until today.

A good story derailed by political bias
Revisado: 03-04-22
I have learned to be extremely skeptical of authors who tell me what other people are thinking. This partisan mind reading of the 45th president was off-putting, as was the caressing of the 44th president.

dystopian novels aren't for everyone, and the collapse of the soviet union makes this particular storyline seem a little dated. with that said, the writing is superb. character development and building drama and a shocking denouement.
