Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Over simplified complex subjects at a cost
Revisado: 04-12-25
Sapiens is certainly accessible and entertaining, that accessibility comes at a cost. In its effort to condense tens of thousands of years into under 500 pages, the book often oversimplifies complex subjects. This tendency can make the book feel more like a TED Talk than a rigorous historical account.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Mixed Feelings—Inspiring but Lacking Depth
Revisado: 03-31-25
I appreciate the grit and resilience in Can’t Hurt Me, but the audiobook’s hybrid format—a mix of narration and podcast-style commentary—didn’t work for me. I found it distracting rather than engaging.
David Goggins embodies the “gladiator” mindset, proving that discipline and relentless effort can overcome even the harshest circumstances. His story is undeniably inspiring, with powerful messages about not letting your past define you and pushing beyond perceived limits.
However, the book falls short in addressing the deeper psychological impact of childhood trauma. Goggins never acknowledges the PTSD that often comes with an abusive upbringing, and he seems unable to fully enjoy his victories. While his mindset fuels incredible achievements, it also leaves an unresolved layer to his story.
If you’re looking for motivation and a no-excuses approach to life, this book delivers. But if you’re hoping for a nuanced exploration of healing alongside achievement, you may find it lacking.

Multiverse travel is finally possible, but there’s just one catch: No one can visit a world where their counterpart is still alive. Enter Cara, whose parallel selves happen to be exceptionally good at dying—from disease, turf wars, or vendettas they couldn’t outrun. Cara’s life has been cut short on 372 worlds in total. On this dystopian Earth, however, Cara has survived. Identified as an outlier and therefore a perfect candidate for multiverse travel, Cara is plucked from the dirt of the wastelands.

While the setting and narration are phenomenal, the story takes too long to resolve the conflict, giving the impression of a young adult’s introduction to science fiction.

Beautiful story about life
Revisado: 01-01-24
"Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" is a captivating exploration of life intricately woven into the realms of both reality and game development. The author's meticulous detailing of characters, their motivations, and emotions mirrors the depth with which she explores the world of game creation.
The narrative skillfully intertwines the complexities of human existence with the intricacies of building virtual worlds. The characters come alive, their motivations becoming palpable, and their emotions resonating with authenticity. The author delves into the psyche of each character, allowing readers to intimately understand their struggles, triumphs, and the intricate tapestry of their lives.
Notably, the narrative doesn't merely focus on the characters but seamlessly integrates the fascinating world of game development. The author's ability to draw parallels between the two worlds adds a unique layer to the storytelling. The details surrounding game creation are presented with the same level of passion and precision as the characters' emotional landscapes.
In "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow," the author masterfully invites readers to contemplate the intersections of reality and the virtual, emphasizing that, much like in a game, life is a complex narrative where each choice, emotion, and interaction shapes the ultimate story. The result is a rich and immersive reading experience that seamlessly blends the profound with the technical.

For those looking for the real story behind the fictionalized movie account of the 47 Ronin story, this is the definitive, fascinating account of this unforgettable tale of a band of samurai who defied the Emperor to avenge the disgrace and death of their master, and faced certain death as a result. It led to one of the bloodiest episodes in Japanese history, and in the process, created a new set of heroes in Japan.

Historia
Humans live in landscapes of make-believe. We spin fantasies. We devour novels, films, and plays. Even sporting events and criminal trials unfold as narratives. Yet the world of story has long remained an undiscovered and unmapped country. It's easy to say that humans are "wired" for story, but why? In this delightful and original book, Jonathan Gottschall offers the first unified theory of storytelling. He argues that stories help us navigate life's complex social problems.

An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.

Terrible narration, weak story
Revisado: 05-15-23
First the narration of this book is terrible. It mumbling most of the time or low volume.
As for the story, starts really well introducing characters and locations, only to reduce the story to 2 main people solving problems by basically pulling solutions out of a magic hat.
