When he broke his caffeine abstinence, it reminded me of when I first got hooked on caffeine in college. Now it’s motivating me to recapture that feeling by moderating my caffeine intake.

Historia
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

Reminder to put in the work
Revisado: 07-30-24
The main takeaway here is that as an artist, you’ll always face resistance. The key is to put in the work regardless of how you feel. It’s a great book to listen to every once in a while because it serves as a reminder to keep your head down and keep working!

This book has made an immediate impact on my daily routines and mindsets. It has made me reconsider hunger, abstaining from screens more often, enduring cold exposure and more rigorous exercise, and countless other things. I’ll definitely re-read this book soon to remind myself of all the valuable lessons it teaches.

Historia
The day after future NBA superstar Chris Paul signed his letter of intent to play college basketball for Wake Forest, he received a world-shattering phone call. His grandfather, Nathaniel "Papa" Jones, a pillar of the Winston-Salem community where he owned and operated the first Black-owned service station in North Carolina, was mugged and ultimately died from a heart attack resulting from the assault. His funeral filled the largest church in the county, which held over 1,000 people. He was 61 years old.

In Never Finished, Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Informs the Future of Medicine
Revisado: 09-13-22
Before reading this book, I didn’t know much about how medicine would change as the human race moves forward. Isaacson makes it clear that humans are on a path towards incredible medical achievements that we can hardly fathom. We are currently at the same stage of medicine that the computing revolution was in the 1970s. Because of this, I’m thrilled to see how this revolution evolves and how it will move humanity forward.

Achieves Expectations with story and narration
Revisado: 06-08-21
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the first book of this series, The Shining. So when I found out that there was a sequel, I immediately started on Doctor Sleep, and it did not disappoint. Stephen King made sure to write an incredible sequel and took his time (~30 years) in doing so. Doctor Sleep ‘shines’ light on Danny Torrence’s life as an adult and brings the Shining into full circle as a lot of plot points from the first book resurface in this book. Also, the narrator did an excellent job at matching his voice and tone with whatever was going on in the book.
And now as my reward for finishing this book, I am excited to watch the movie!
