So freaky legitimately scarry
Revisado: 03-15-25
This is a solid phycological thriller/horror story. It's one of the freakiest and most bizarre huanted house stories I have ever encountered. The narration is good, the story is engaging and always keeping you guessing right up to the end. There are moments in the book that made me glad I wasn't listening to it alone in my house. I highly recommend.

Historia
Thirty years after a tragic accident shut down production of the classic children’s program Mister Magic, the five surviving cast members have done their best to move on. But just as generations of cultishly devoted fans still cling to the lessons they learned from the show, the cast, known as the Circle of Friends, have spent their lives searching for the happiness they felt while they were on it. The friendship. The feeling of belonging. And the protection of Mister Magic.

An interesting read
Revisado: 05-03-24
The story is very different from most books from the genre. it's unsettling at times but I wouldn't call it scary. I was really impressed by the imagination of the story. I would have given it a lower rating but what the author had to say about the book at the end really put it all into perspective. This book is a metaphor for the damage done to younge minds by a rigid society rooted in dated religious beliefs.

You should read this
Revisado: 05-01-24
An incredible and engaging book full of insight and cutting truth. It's true the patriarch has taken one of the most powerful transformative experiences of humanity and diminishes it along with the person who makes it possible. Motherhood is savage and awakens a feral primal wisdom transforming the body and soul. And it's dehumanizing and abusive the way our society patronizes and dismisses the abilities and wisdom of the women who experience it. Motherhood doesn't erase you it enhances you. Take this book's message at heart and take back your power.

Historia
In a matter of weeks, Massachusetts has been overrun by an insidious rabies-like virus that is spread by saliva. But unlike rabies, the disease has a terrifyingly short incubation period of an hour or less. Those infected quickly lose their minds and are driven to bite and infect as many others as they can before they inevitably succumb. Hospitals are inundated with the sick and dying, and hysteria has taken hold. To try to limit its spread, the commonwealth is under quarantine and curfew. But society is breaking down and the government's emergency protocols are faltering.

If you're looking for horror this is not your book
Revisado: 11-02-21
Survivor Song isn't a horror story it's a drama with horror elements. Pual Tremblay tries to bring a full circle human narrative to the zombie genre but falls short of the genre completely. The story ends up being exactly what the title promises, it's a story about survival but also friendship. The few elements of horror created in this book such as the opening scene are disrupted by the folksy nature of Rams and Nats friendship, and Nats need to connect with her unborn baby. I personally didn't enjoy this book even though it's well written. I can see why some people love it and I can also see why others hated it.

Historia
Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; all the members of the second expedition committed suicide; the third expedition died in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another; the members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within months of their return, all had died of aggressive cancer.

Biology geeks will love this book!
Revisado: 08-28-21
This book is more for the scientifically curious. If you're a biology geek like me, you will love this book. If you have ever wandered through the woods cracked open a rotting log and observed the ecosystem inside or enjoy looking in tide pools then this book is for you. Annihilation takes on a scientific exploration of an alien landscape through the perspective of a biologist. The story is a quite unfolding of dread as the biologist boldly walks toward annihilation driven by wonder, obsession, and grief. The narrator does a fine job honestly she fits perfectly with the nerdy personality of the biologist. This is one of my favorite sifis highly recommend.

Surprisingly scary and thrilling sifi horror
Revisado: 08-02-21
I was expecting something more paranormal ended up huanted by this interdementional tail of terror. While there are elements of a paranormal horror story, T Kingfisher creates horror out of what happens when beings from other dimensions meet.
