Historia
N. T. Wright—widely regarded as the most influential commentator and interpreter of Paul—deftly unpacks this dense and sometimes elusive letter, detailing Paul's arguments and showing how it illuminates the Gospel from the promises to Abraham through the visions of Revelation. Wright takes a deep dive into Romans 8, showing how it illuminates so much else that God reveals in Scripture: God the Father, Christology, and the Spirit; Jesus' Messiahship, cross, resurrection, and ascension; salvation, redemption, and adoption; suffering and glory; holiness and hope.

Coherent and thought-provoking
Revisado: 09-05-24
N. T. Wright has written a wonderful biography of Paul, as well as several other books. This deep dive into Chapter 8 of Paul’s Letter to the Romans presents an evolution into the author’s own thinking about the document. I especially enjoyed his explanation of the original Greek and the issues created by translations centuries later. Placing the text into its original context, first century CE, is a valuable contribution to Christian scholarship and theology. An excellent listen.

Malcolm Gladwell, author of New York Times best sellers including Talking to Strangers and host of the podcast Revisionist History, uses original interviews, archival footage, and his trademark insight to weave together the stories of a Dutch genius and his homemade computer, a band of brothers in Central Alabama, a British psychopath, and pyromaniacal chemists at Harvard. As listeners hear these stories unfurl, Gladwell examines one of the greatest moral challenges in modern American history.

Conceived as an audiobook BEFORE a print book …
Revisado: 09-20-21
… and it shows. Great audio clips from key figures, historians, and civilians who were there. A story of moral decision-making in the context of war. The origins of a vision now reality, decades later. And still subject to error in the “fog of war.” For me, the most personally impactful of 15 books I have read or listened in nine months of the year to date.
